Apart from Tait I dont think we have any good back up fast bowlers.

but we have so much backup batting talent it's not funny.

Yes. The batting backup isnt bad. But real dominance at the world stage is never accomplished without a great bowling attack.

Like SJS, I wouldn't necessarily disagree, but on the other hand the only effective test back-up bowler (re)introduced recently has been Kasprowicz - no spring chicken himself.

This squad is still heavily reliant on McGrath and Warne so I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "the Aussies will adapt their team line-ups to counter this as we've already seen in this squad".

If you're suggesting that some of the specialist batsmen who've recently graduated to the test side are taking the pressure off the frontline attack with their part-time spin bowling I'd disagree entirely. May have misinterpreted you though.

that's part of the adaptation, the other being speculation / reports in local press from sources inside the powers that be, about changing the lineup bias more often from the current standard 6-4 split...........particularly the introduction of a 5th bowling allrounder - be it a seamer like Watson or someone else.........

IMO the batting will still be the primary weapon to try and dominate & 'advance the game', thus giving their 'weakened' post McGrath / Warne bowling attack the time to bowl sides out...........

we may not see the same sort of emphatic victories or series whitewashes, but I still expect to see series wins enough to be able to maintain their lead, however I do acknowledge that they may well struggle at times.......

I'm hoping india can bounce back to finish the aussies off in the next 2 games, would be a great achievement. Then by next summer england will cane them. Fact is no one saw england winning 7 tests in a row this summer and probably won't expext anyhthing the same this winter and into next year, i've got a feeling they will. No-one has seen the likes of Harmison for a while and also freddy on form. The WI and NZ havent worked out how to deal with them and it will take a while until someone does.

There's this thing called television.......

Is Tait really that good yet though?

He certainly didn't perform over here...
He;s started well again here, but I know he had a bad summer over there. Then again, McGrath came from nowhere.........

Tait really has something a lot of bowlers don't have. Even though he bowls so many rubbish balls, he still manages to get batsmen out very quickly. That suggests to me that they're not able just to wait for the bad balls because he is so awkward to face.

What about the spin department ? From what I've heard that's not looking particularly rosy....

There are enough. I don't think the rest of the world is completely bursting at the seams with quality backup spinners either.

Maybe.....

I dunno about first class level....but at the u-19 wc earlier this year, there were a few nations that had more impressive spinners than Australia.

There's a long way to go from U-19 to test cricket, and Australia has better developmental facilities than a lot of other countries, so I wouldn't say that U-19 is a fantastic indication.

Seriously though If hauritz and White are the two best spinners in the country after Warne (and lets discount Macgill -- we're talking long term here), Australia have big problems in the spin dept.

I don't rate either of them to be honest - both would struggle immesely at test level.

Beau Casson will be Australia's next big spinner. Krezja also looks like a prospect. Tasmania have some players like Xavier Doherty who, if they can find their feet at first class level, could also become quite a handful. Doherty was a member of Australia's U-19 WC winning side (2 years ago?)

Australias World Dominace will it ever end

This Australian team is arguably the greatest team ever, even though other teams of past generations could question that. But at the moment just looking at the way they play the game its superb and one feels it wont end, but has they say their is bright light for world cricket after all cause some of the greats of this dominant era like McGrath, Warne, Gilchrist, Martyn, Hayden, Langer are getting a bit old in the tooth and one wonders do australia have good enough players who are talented enogh to replace them but are unproven. I think they do lets look at langer and haydens spot their are guys like mike hussey and phil jaques who i feel could fill those spots quite admirably and damien martyn spot could be occupied by a abundance of talented batsman such david hussey, marcus north and to some extent craig philipson and mark cosgrove (even though his season at present has been poor but future is extremely bright.

But replacing the trio of legends McGrath, Warne and Gilly that i'll take some doing. Firstly in warne's case their young cameron white has been touted since under-19 days has been the next warne maybe he wont quite live up to that but ya never know, thier are other pretty good young spinner such as Hauritz (Even though season has been poor), Doherty and Cullen. In Gilly case that be though has well brad haddin looks good but dont know if he can be a gilchrist but when he gets his chance i'll back him to use his way to play the game to effect while young luke ronchi to me looks to be gilcrist reincarnated.FINALLY McGrath how do get one for him jeeeese what a player maybe a guy like shaun tiat could come in and be a great in the future, but while others like bracken
young aaron bird who has been a star through youth cricket, scott brant, paul rofe etc can work in the australian team but i feel guys like Lee and Gillespie will run things while tose names just mentioned will work around them. But to me australia future is bright and wont plummit after the retirement ofthe greats unlike the west indies because they will nuture their talents and yongster who see this team will get more interested in the game and to me until jesus comes back even down the line if a team gets the nod on australia, australia will always remain has one of the better temas around.
