Finally England showing what they are really capable of, even with a depleted bowling attack.

Caddick always goes well if he gets an early wicket and so it proved today again

One more wicket and maybe even 450 is now on the cards... not bad when people were talking about 650+ and Hayden hitting 300+

It doesn't only seem to be just Caddick who gets inspired by an early wicket...its also the entire England team!

Interesting...this is exactly what happened last season with NZ.

Langer & Hayden piled on the runs and then as soon as they were out, Australia collapsed.

I think the theory that NZ will comprehensively outplayed in the first 2 tests was kind of false in the fact that really only Hayden & Langer were scoring the runs against us.

According to the Aussie commentator (on Warne's "caught behind" - Bucknor will give that out and give him 5 LBW's.

Great effort by England to fightback and bowl Australia out for 492...

A great innings by Warnie who belted the attack all over the park, unfortunatley a lack of support from the middle order(who i think have forgoten how to bat:P:P) saw England get themselves back in there with a slight chance....

Will be interesting to see how they go now on what looks to be a good wicket with some cracks starting to open up...

But all in all a great fightback from the poms who must have heard about the Telegraph's Backpacker team coming to take their place...
:P:P:P:P;););););)

Yup you got that right there G.b australia did well yesterday scoring 361/2 odd but i never knew a collapse like this would come , the middle order didnt contribute much

0/32 for England Vaughn having a fiery start
Shane Warne in :P i love watching spinners

A good result for England today with Australia losing its last 8 wickets for 114. Warne got half of those runs.

The Australian attack will now have to back up their fighting words on a flat pitch. Vaughan looks to be seeing them all right.

Wow!! Great and unexpected fightback from England. McGrath has taken Vaughan as he promised he would, but if Eng bat intelligently from here on, they can force a draw and go into the 2nd test with their heads held high and morale intact.

I don't think McGrath counted on Vaughan targeting him!
But anyway, if Vaughan continues to attack McGrath it could be the battle of the series.

Haven't seen this incident - if it'd been given England's effort would have been sensational!

MV has certainly changed his approach to the game!

Good to see today, but does anyone know why Steve Waugh bowled more than Dizzy?

Also, I'm glad to see Giles taking 4 wickets - considering the stick he's ghot from some quarters.

Apparently Gillespie has an ankle complaint, but they did not take him off the field according to Mark Taylor because he would not be able to bowl until the amount of time he was off the field the previous day was up. So a good thinking decision by the Australians, he was obviously ok to run around the field so they may aswell keep him on so they can use him straight away in the morning.

This is good....England showing some spunk and putting up a decent fight.

Vaughan was attacking McGrath at the very start of the innings... too bad he fell early.
