Dunno why everyone is on Ganguly's back. He would walk into the England team.
Not with his attitude...

And he certainly wouldn't bowl.

Exactly what is wrong with his attitude? and why wouldn't he bowl? In any case, he is primarily a batsman and that's the only reason why he would be in the team in the 1st place.

To be honest, Ganguly has been fined several times for disrespect to umpires, especially regarding appealing.

Would you care to explain what you meant by that ?
Aloof, Lancashire said he had an almost Royal Air about him. He also doesn't try hard in the field. He also, as Liam has just said, has had spats with Umpires and Officials...

Your 1st question I answered in my other post. Bowling...because if he was in my team I wouldn't let him bowl, he's slow slow slow...

but he can be naggingly accurate and quite difficult to get away if he hits the right line and length. You really can't expect any more from a slow medium bowler in a one dayer. He has had 5 wicket hauls in conditions that assist swing. Of course, that was a few years back, now he doesn't bowl half as much.

So have a lot of other players....and a lot of others have done more horrible deeds on the field and escaped punishment.IMO, that's no yardstick at all.

That's an accusation that has no basis...I don't know about the Lancashire stuff, but Ian Chappel accused him of that same thing while being the Indian captain, which was one among the many stupid and bigoted statements made by Ian Chappel.

As for Ganguly's trouble with umpires and others, its mostly because he is so combative most of the times on the field that he comes off as an arrogant guy.He is a no-nonsense kinda guy and that's what sometimes puts him into trouble.

I second that. An aggressive captain from India is such a novelty that most things he does are blown out of proportion while others who do far worse things get off lightly. I can list out cases, but that will lead to other controversies and this will go off-topic.

He used to be a very accurate bowler in ODIs a few years back.I remember watching him demolish Pakistan in Toronto singlehandedly with the ball a few years ago and was very hard to score runs off in swinging conditions.

Yes ofcourse he is a slow bowler, but then it doesn't matter how slow or fast one is as long as they can deliver....and he sure was one of those fifth bowlers who could deliver consistently if the conditions favoured him.

But ofcourse he doesn't bowl regularly anymore but that's one area in which he could have really made a mark.

Vaughan has struggled in these last two series. Drop him and try Fulton vs the Sri Lankans or Indians this summer

Back on Ganguly, I think the reason people don't like him has something to do with this; every time I see him, I just have this overwhelming urge to deck him. Don't know what it is because, as has been noted, he's not the worst behaved cricketer or captain for that matter. I don't know what it is but I just want to cave his face in and would want to bounce the bejeezus out of him were I bowling to him. Not sure why..........there are several people whom you meet in your life and just instantly despise for no apparent rational reason and maybe Ganguly does that to a lot of people? :D

I got the same feeling from Scott Muller too.....ugh.

I too suffer from that urge...but I get the urge to do it to other players too...I don't hate Glenn McGrath but there's something about his action and the way that he allways gets his wickets caught in the slips or behind yet only NZ have worked him out that makes me bang my head against the wall...

The problem with Ganguly...I think you will find that it's his aloof atitude which just makes him seem like a snob. Oh yeah...I just realised another player who most people would like to deck...Corkie...

Only cause India has such a huge cricket loving population ;)

I remember a quote by Simon Hughes commentating on a Test in India, Dermot Reeve said "I can't understand why he's keeping Srinath going, Kumble is bowling well and Srinath is getting no assistance, I can't understand why he won't put Harbajan on at the other end" and Huges replies with "A lot of people can't understand why Ganguly is Captain of India"

He just has that effect...
