Kartik wont make the WC Squad, Kumble will.
Bangar wont get into the ODI's in New Zealand, unless Laxman really underperforms.

Agreed on Kartik, as Indian selectors are going in for Kumble just because of his experiance, even though he was totally off color lately. As for Bangar/Laxman, India has abandoned the idea of going into a oneday with seven batters and 4 bowlers, thus Laxman would probably lose out to an allrounder. Either Bangar or Ajit should be the 5th bowler for India, i would go for Bangar as he is a capable batsman that would be comming at seventh slot!

Bangar is a temporary fix for India and will not be there in two years time. To his credit though, he's a hard worker and a decent trier. He knows his limitations and he works within them.

Kartik is the future, Kumble is bowling crap and not even contributing with the bat. He can't keep it tight or take wickets. Kartik was far and away the best of the Indian bowlers vs West Indies.

There are lots of promissing young allrounder comming up, but it will be better to try them out after the WC, as WC is not an occasion to experiment with young players!

I agree with you on all 3 players. However i think Bangar can still do a decent job for India in WC.
To my mind, Bangar is THE KEY player for India at the World Cup - if he can perform at 7 and as 5th bowler, the sides a lot stronger.

Strange that some people don't like him.

Who are the up-and-coming ones then? We don't get much coverage of it over here!

No, Laxmipathy Balaji is not an allrounder, but now that you have mentioned his name, then let me tell you that Naidu is doing extremely well at domestic level, just 3 days back he destroyed Orissa team taking 11 wickets in a match!!!!

After World Cup Balaji will certainly be in Indian team!

Orissa is a very weak team. It gets thrashed very often. There are many teams like that in domestic cricket. Thats why almost every batsman has a very good avg. So you shouldn't count Balaji based on that match.

Balaji thumped Orissa, big whoop!
He should try and do the same to Railways and Mumbai first, but he probably cant do it.

Brian lara at present is the most overrated, i mean what has he done since making the highest test score of 375* and 501 in english county cricket, both of which were many years ago!

Oh yeah, and things like the century in the CT where he went straight to hospital with Hepatitis after it?

Have you not been following cricket lately?? Lara score almost 700 runs in 3 Matches in SL last year when no West Indian (besides Sarwan) was scoring runs. He averaged 114 with 3 hundreds and a double and single hundred in the 3rd Test.

Before that, he scored that brilliant match-winning 200+ v Australia in the West Indies. The West Indies were coming back from 51 all out and Lara single-handedly inspired the team back to competitiveness.

Not good enough for you? Ok then. Lara followed up his double hundred with the best innings I have ever seen - 153*. He led the West Indies to a target of over 300 to win. Also he had a partnership of 54 with Ambrose, Ambrose scored 12.

Also he has a couple of mediocre knocks here and there, 182 at the Gabba, 100+* in Aus v Aus, 92 v SA in WI 2001. Aside from all that...I guess you're right, he hasn't produced anything since his record breaking year.

Keep in mind also that these listed performances were achieved in the last 3 years so there are alot more not mentioned.

Lara is one of the greatest batsmen ever to grace a cricket field. In terms of talent, he belongs up there with the very best. In terms of performance, by his exalted standards, he has had an up and down career, but he still is one of the greatest batsmen of this era and when on song, absolutely magnificient.

That was just one example, i gave that because it was from the latest match that Naidu played. Naidu has been doing well throughout theseason, he didn't get all those 76 wkts against Orissa!

What ? You landed from outer space last week, pal ??

Lara has played many a brilliant knock and one of the most recent was his astounding performance in SL last year, where he tamed the "greatest bowler of all time".

And those two innings of 375 and 501 were just two of the more talked about innings because of the records that they broke. And if you only remember those two, I would say you should buy the "Wisden cricket refresher video of the nineties"(I wish they made something like that) :duh: :duh:
