masterblaster
International Captain
Nah, I think India would prefer VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid to Damien Martyn, and we would prefer Sanjay Bangar as he is so adaptable in opening, middle order and bowling too.
It's just that Bangar has been proving himself at international level with some match winning performances while Watson hasn't. I suppose you wouldn't consider that a good enough reason.Originally posted by Eclipse
How the hell could anyone preffer Laxman to Martyn?
You could argue a case for Laxman in test cricket but Martyn is miles ahead in the ODI game.
As for Watson VS Bangar there is no comparison there I cant see why any one would choose Bangar .
I disagree with you masterblaster but I will agree to dissagre
Right now Bangar is performing enough to occupy the all-rounder spot, so India probably wouldn't look at Shane Watson. As for Martyn, he wouldn't get into the Indian batting lineup in tests. In one dayers, maybe, but where would you insert him in a lineup with Sehwag, Ganguly, Laxman, Tendulkar, Dravid, Yuvraj, Kaif ? Maybe for Laxman although if you look at his performance in the recent series, that is also very doubtful. What India need are not batsmen or bits and pieces all-rounders but solid pace bowlers. So, if you say India will swallow up McGrath or Gillespie, I would agree with you.Originally posted by Eclipse
Damian Martyn is in no way overated masterblaster.
nether is Shane Watson ??
I know india would take both of them.
Errrm...is there actually any point in this?Originally posted by anilramavarma

Disagree there - Bangar may have done OK in the past couple of months but he's still 30, and Watson would definitely be looked at by the Indians if he were Indian, even if it's because of his age!Right now Bangar is performing enough to occupy the all-rounder spot, so India probably wouldn't look at Shane Watson.
I think he'd fit nicely in there in place of Laxman (or even getting Dravid to open, and slipping him in there)As for Martyn, he wouldn't get into the Indian batting lineup in tests.
Disagree there, I'd take Ganguly ahead of Martyn any day of the week, but Martyn ahead of Laxman.Originally posted by Eclipse
Martyn is a better test batsman that Ganguly by a fair way and hes better than Laxmann to.
Just look at his stats.
For some reason this makes me think Balaji!IMO the most over rated players are any and all of the 'johnny come lately's who are touted as the next world beater's when they don't have a dozen games under their belts to be judged upon!!!!
Like Agarkar you mean?2nd only to this group are those more 'established' players who are given a new status based upon what appears to be a 'one off' performance!!!!!
