Nah, I think India would prefer VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid to Damien Martyn, and we would prefer Sanjay Bangar as he is so adaptable in opening, middle order and bowling too.

How the hell could anyone preffer Laxman to Martyn?

You could argue a case for Laxman in test cricket but Martyn is miles ahead in the ODI game.

As for Watson VS Bangar there is no comparison there I cant see why any one would choose Bangar .

I disagree with you masterblaster but I will agree to dissagre ;)

Watson vs Bangar is about even at the moment as Bangar is actually doing it, and Watson is still an unproven talent, but as and when he gets an International berth we'll be able to compare the 2 a bit more easily!

Damien martyn is not streets ahead of Dravid or Laxman. I would say that he could be prefered over Laxman, but definitley not over Dravid.

It's just that Bangar has been proving himself at international level with some match winning performances while Watson hasn't. I suppose you wouldn't consider that a good enough reason.

I know india would take both of them.
Right now Bangar is performing enough to occupy the all-rounder spot, so India probably wouldn't look at Shane Watson. As for Martyn, he wouldn't get into the Indian batting lineup in tests. In one dayers, maybe, but where would you insert him in a lineup with Sehwag, Ganguly, Laxman, Tendulkar, Dravid, Yuvraj, Kaif ? Maybe for Laxman although if you look at his performance in the recent series, that is also very doubtful. What India need are not batsmen or bits and pieces all-rounders but solid pace bowlers. So, if you say India will swallow up McGrath or Gillespie, I would agree with you.

Errrm...is there actually any point in this?

Disagree there - Bangar may have done OK in the past couple of months but he's still 30, and Watson would definitely be looked at by the Indians if he were Indian, even if it's because of his age!

I think he'd fit nicely in there in place of Laxman (or even getting Dravid to open, and slipping him in there)

Martyn is a better test batsman that Ganguly by a fair way and hes better than Laxmann to.

Just look at his stats.

Well Eclipse we will stick to our own opinions eh! :)

Ganguly is India's captain and is doing a damn, fine job so he wont get replaced, and in ODI's Ganguly is Awesome. Laxman is a fantastic player when he gets going, and I think Laxman and Martyn are pretty much even stevens at the moment, and Dravid averaging 55 in tests and averaging 59 AWAY from India :wow: is pretty much i say just better than Martyn

Anyway we have our own views.

Disagree there, I'd take Ganguly ahead of Martyn any day of the week, but Martyn ahead of Laxman.

I rate Martyn as a batsman because of more than just his stats or style. To me he is the 'quiet' achiever of the Aussie batting and plays a key role at No4 after the shot makers ahead of him.

He seems to know the importance of making partnerships and is quite prepared to just stick around and let the guy at the other end have a go if they are in a purple patch of form. He is quite capable of scoring his runs nearly as quickly as those ahead of him and is a pleasure to watch. If he does not have a good series, then it seems that the Aussie middle & lower orders do not have a good series.

In this regard he performs the same form of anchor role as Dravid when he is in the middle order. Accordingly I rate these 2 on a par for their roles within their teams, and both ahead of Laxman who benefits from their role.

IMO the most over rated players are any and all of the 'johnny come lately's who are touted as the next world beater's when they don't have a dozen games under their belts to be judged upon!!!!

2nd only to this group are those more 'established' players who are given a new status based upon what appears to be a 'one off' performance!!!!!

;)

For some reason this makes me think Balaji!

Like Agarkar you mean?

But the society appreciates him, doesn't necessarily mean we think he's any good, just we appreciate his efforts and the fact he's giving us so many laughs!
