Indian domestic season 2005-06

Now Munaf Patel comes into the act and gets 3 for 17 so far. He's not done much as a strike bowler, to be honest. Maybe two more? Maybe the Duleep Final? Or is it five more for Zaheer? Let's just watch the scorecards, since it's not on TV anywhere.

Ganguly:

SC Ganguly c Masakadza b Cremer 14 64 42 3 fours

So he played 42 balls. Out of those, he hit 3 for fours. Even if he made the other two runs in singles, it would mean he blocked 37 of the 42 balls he played in the inning. Against the mighty Zimbabwe attack no less. Very poor.

This is pathetic. Ganguly might just be ... no i wont say it yet, but you know the chances for him are slim.

Bowling of Ganguly - 5-0-24-1
Any thoughts on Laxmi Ratan Shukla. He was among the top 5 run getters last season. Does he bowl these days?

His hundred for east zone in last year's duleep trophy match almost went unnoticed.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla was picked as an all-rounder, but wasn't a frontliner with bat or ball. His three matches were far from memorable. Now, he doesn't bowl at all, which has reduced his chances of a national recall to zero, though he's been among the runs playing for Bengal and East Zone. His century was savage, but it came against a second-string BDesh attack. Moreover, that's the kind of innings a non-batsman should play.

hilarious, timesofindia reports that ganguly expects to be selected for the test team. then he gets bowled by zaheer khan (0 off 7 deliveries) in a duleep trophy encounter. speaking of zaheer, he certainly deserves a test berth and also a spot in the one-day squad against south africa. he should either take the place of sreesanth as 4th seamer, or be the 5th seamer. i also want to see vrv singh in the team, given that he is fit.

Ganguly has been in any thing but good form in the matches he has played at FC level in recent times.

When Dalmiya was asked regarding the Bindra allegations a few days ago, he retored that Ganguly came into the team on his own merit and captained the side on his merit. He will make a come back on his own performances and he has been performing well.

Once the election clouds are over and Dalmiya manages to get his faction to retain their position (if they do), it will be very interesting to see what happens.

There's one Abid Nabi from J&K, who's faster than the more illustrious pacers in the scene. He's not got the recognition he deserves, maybe since he plays for the little-known Northern Plate side. A place in the national squad isn't needed rightaway, but he's definitely a good choice for the India-A side or for North Zone. If Joginder Sharma adds more pace or imporves his bowling with an old ball (or even both), and adds some power to his batting, he'd be an automatic selection.

Ganguly has got a pair, after a golden duck in this innings, courtesy Zaheer Khan again.
I'm happy he did..i'm not much of a Ganguly fan...actually I aint a Ganguly fan at all. He used to be good but his days have pasted. He should not be picked for any series untill he proves his self again in Domestic Cricket first. That doesn't mean like just one or two 100's...he has to really prove himself that he is still good enough for international cricket.

And Telegraph Calcutta focuses on glorifying his three wicket hall ignoring the pair :D

I apologise for lack of updates, but the last three days had been tough. I'll sneak in what I read in Times, who are taking this series very seriously.

Transfer windows have been buzzing, and it's not just Bahutule/Munaf going to Maharashtra that's news. Ambati Rayudu, once hyped as the next Tendulkar, has shifted to Andhra, with TS Suman. Karnataka's Vijay Bharadwaj now plays for Jharkhand, while more TN players went to Assam. Sadagopan Ramesh now plays for Kerala, while ex-Delhi skipper Ajay Jadeja is– you wouldn't believe it– captain AND coach of Rajasthan. Oh brother, TN unearthed a relic from the past by picking Ashish Kapoor– um, hold on there.....didn't he retire?

This is terrible. Ajay Ratra, the fastest Indian wicketkeeper, didn't make the Haryana side. The selector said that he was dropped because of inconsistency and he dropped a few catches. Huh? We've seen the likes of Rahul Dravid, Parthiv Patel, MSK Prasad and Deep Sleep wicketkeeping for India despite so many goof-ups, and here he's dropped because of a few. Do they not know that he was an India contender and is still trying? He has had a major role to play– as captain, wicketkeeper and tailender– in Haryana's victory in the Plate division and their subsequent promotion. Dumb.

Now for the action. Jaffer cracked a double ton, a lot more than the usual contribution each season. Ganguly got five wickets to justify his place in the Test team as all-rounder, but there were eight no-balls, and he's just doign it NOW to hold a place in the team. The likes of JP Yadav and Sanjay Bangar have been doing it for years and young Joginder has been doing it since debut, but for the benefit of their teams. Facing Services, Punjab's Ishan Malhotra got 5 wickets and a 50– who...is...Ishan Malhotra? In a battle of the all-rounders, Haryana's Joginder Sharma got 67 runs while UP's Pravin Kumar got 5 wickets, but Joginder just got one wicket for 65 and Pravin hasn't come out to bat yet. Karnataka's strike seamer Vinay Kumar got five wickets and Anil Kumble got three.

Wasim Jaffer  He had a chance. But I will always support him as a fan of his from as long as I can remember.

To add to the transfer list, J Arun Kumar and Anand Katti of Karnataka are playing for Assam this season, which already figures Vasanth Saravanan of TN. S Suresh , former captain of TN has moved to Kerala.

and MSK Prasad is playing as a pure batsman for Andhra.

Joginder Sharma made up for the lack of wickets by taking out two tailenders, getting four wickets, adding to his score of 67. Munaf Patel, playing as a strike bowler for Maharashtra, scored a blistering 78 in 90 with four sixes, and also took 4 wickets to clean up the Bengal tail. Munaf is a giant, muscular bowler with more than a little pace, and if he takes his batting a bit more seriously, and scores a chunk of runs this season (and improve his fielding more than a little bit), he can get ahead of Joginder Sharma, who doesn't look a power player, but is very agile and fast on the field. Yusuf Pathan, another power player, scored 76 in 100, with 12 fours and a six, and his leg-spin is yet to make a mark in the match. Zaheer took 3 for 18.

Zaheer takes four. Andhra all out for 206.

Folks, keep a watch on UP v/s Haryana. UP have been set a target of 145, but Haryana have them in a tight spot at 59/5.

Don't bother watching Mumbai v/s Delhi. That's likely to be a boring draw. Powar got six wickets. Also ignore TN v/s Gujarat- there's been more rain than play in that ground, somewhere in TN.

Any domestic games being televised this season Arjun?
No, unfortunately, none of the four (uh....five) sports channels are showing anything, and even the regional DD channels are not present. Besides, it would be difficult to catch a game like UP v/s Haryana, which has now reached a very interesting stage- UP is at 94 for 8, with Joginder and Rana getting four wickets each!
