END OF DAY FOUR......
Railways have defeated Gujarat by 193 runs, and finally some points on the board. Stock spinner Shankara Rao got 5 wickets as Gujarat were bundled out for a paltry total of 171.
Another result was recorded when Punjab defeated Hyderabad. Gagandeep got 5 wickets while Ibrahim Khaleel scored a rapid century but that only delayed the inevitable Punjab win. Not too bad for a team that's without frontliners Sodhi, Yuvraj, Harbhajan, VRV and new-find Malhatra, but Gagandeep and veteran Uniyal did well, and so did Ricky and Gaurav Gupta, whose centuries put Punjab in a winning position.
Other matches ended in draws. Haryana's surprise all-rouder Sachin Rana got a score of 99 (following his century and two wickets) as they notched up a score of over 350, but neither team got enough wickets to force a result. It was a disappointing day for frontline all-rounders Yusuf Pathan and Joginder Sharma, who fell short of expectations, bar Yusuf's 30 and Joginder's four wickets.
It was a disappointing day for Mumbai too, as they were missing their frontline bowlers Powar and Agarkar, and they were a bowler short. That helped Bengal as they scored 382, with Rohan Gavaskar scoring 145. Kulkarni, however, got 7 for over 100.
Munaf Patel, another surprise package with the bat, scored 34, as the match between Delhi and his team Maharashtra ended in a tame draw. I wasn't around to wrap up Day Three, but youngster Mayank Tehlan scored a century and Delhi scored 370/9 declared, pinching a first-innings lead. Munaf got 3 wickets for 88. So far, so good. The other two matches ended in tame draws (UP v/s Services) or were rained out (predictable, Karnataka v/s TN in TN), with nothing of note happening.
