END OF DAY TWO:

Baroda got the first-innings lead, but both all-rounders in the centre of action made up for yesterday's disappointments. Yusuf Pathan scored 3 with five fours, while Joginder got four wickets in a rush to leave Baroda at 306/9.

.

Make that 31, with five fours. I've been typing a lot faster than the text appears in the box. Anyway, Railways is in a good position aginst Gujarat, but it's a matter of taking the other 8 wickets.

END OF DAY FOUR......

Railways have defeated Gujarat by 193 runs, and finally some points on the board. Stock spinner Shankara Rao got 5 wickets as Gujarat were bundled out for a paltry total of 171.

Another result was recorded when Punjab defeated Hyderabad. Gagandeep got 5 wickets while Ibrahim Khaleel scored a rapid century but that only delayed the inevitable Punjab win. Not too bad for a team that's without frontliners Sodhi, Yuvraj, Harbhajan, VRV and new-find Malhatra, but Gagandeep and veteran Uniyal did well, and so did Ricky and Gaurav Gupta, whose centuries put Punjab in a winning position.

Other matches ended in draws. Haryana's surprise all-rouder Sachin Rana got a score of 99 (following his century and two wickets) as they notched up a score of over 350, but neither team got enough wickets to force a result. It was a disappointing day for frontline all-rounders Yusuf Pathan and Joginder Sharma, who fell short of expectations, bar Yusuf's 30 and Joginder's four wickets.

It was a disappointing day for Mumbai too, as they were missing their frontline bowlers Powar and Agarkar, and they were a bowler short. That helped Bengal as they scored 382, with Rohan Gavaskar scoring 145. Kulkarni, however, got 7 for over 100.

Munaf Patel, another surprise package with the bat, scored 34, as the match between Delhi and his team Maharashtra ended in a tame draw. I wasn't around to wrap up Day Three, but youngster Mayank Tehlan scored a century and Delhi scored 370/9 declared, pinching a first-innings lead. Munaf got 3 wickets for 88. So far, so good. The other two matches ended in tame draws (UP v/s Services) or were rained out (predictable, Karnataka v/s TN in TN), with nothing of note happening.

Another round of Ranjis starts today

Mumbai vs Railways should be good!
Maharashtra vs Tamil Nadu will be interesting as well..

Mumbai seems to be fielding a very young, inexperienced batting side, specially now that Jaffer is with the national team..what happened to Mane, btw?

ps: That takes me into the leading pack with 2 posts :D

I will start an Indian domestic round up to keep track of domestic cricket starting today whenever I can.

Delhi vs Gujrat

19 wickets fell and Delhi was skittled out for 69 continuing their dismal season. Gujrat on the other hand has taken a handy lead in a low scoring match and continue to impress as a team. Trivedi and Makda continue to perform for Gujrat while Bhandari also manages a 5 wicket hall for Delhi.

Mumbai vs Railways

Sahil Kulkreja, the young Mumbai opener, made 72 while Muzumdar managed a hundred as Mumbai have 232/4 versus Railways. It is important for Railways not to lose this match and at least gain a first inning lead. So will be very interesting what happens tomorrow.

Bengal vs Karnataka

Bengal has been performing very well this season. Another good inning from Gavaskar. Karnataka meanwhile continues to fail to impress.

Tamil Nadu vs Maharashtra

Maharasthra has been disappointing this season and Tamil Nadu has impressed with a solid batting line up. But a 254/6 for T.N. means Maharasthra has a chance in this match but would depend on their batsmen to get some lead.

U.P. vs Punjab

U.P has struggled this season but Raina keeps making his mark with a 127 this time.

Hyderabad vs Haryana

Sole effordt by Anirudh Singh - in the 80s maynot be good enough for Hyderabad and may keep Haryana of all teams in hunt for a semi spot if they impress in this game.

Services vs Andhra

Bottom teams of group B - a 200/4 for Services with 82 from Jasvir Singh. Not much of interest in this game.

Plate matches maybe reviewed by me at the end of each match if I have time.

Cheers.

Mind posting the scores below? Also, 232/4 from Mumbai seems a horribly slow scoring rate...no wonder nobody gets results in this league...

Delhi have problems with their batting. The exit of Ajay Jadeja has weakened them, and they also miss a genuine all-rounder. Gujarat, of course, are inconsistent, and Delhi can bounce back somewhere.
Mumbai vs Railways

Amazing Amol scores another century. The scoring rate may be dreadfully slow so far, but with Ramesh Powar at the scene, things can change. JP Yadav bowled a good spell to get two early wickets, while Bangar got one.
Bengal vs Karnataka

Bengal has been performing very well this season. Another good inning from Gavaskar. Karnataka meanwhile continues to fail to impress.
One team on the verge of relegation, another with a few youngsters and more than a few has-beens.....not much interest here. Vinay Kumar, their opening bowler, is one to watch, but the others......snooze.....
Tamil Nadu vs Maharashtra

Luckily this match wasn't played in TN, or else it would be rained out. Munaf Patel had a forgettable outing, taking just one wicket for 72. Vidyut scored 30.
U.P. vs Punjab

U.P has struggled this season but Raina keeps making his mark with a 127 this time.
Gagandeep gets none, but Sodhi got a wicket, bowling 10 overs.
Hyderabad vs Haryana

Sole effordt by Anirudh Singh - in the 80s maynot be good enough for Hyderabad and may keep Haryana of all teams in hunt for a semi spot if they impress in this game.
Don't take Hyderabad too seriously– there's one back-door selection too many, and they have a very cheap look to them, and none in that team can make a South Zone selection. Haryana, on the other hand, are a surprise package, and have impressed in their first two matches, winning the first against UP and snatching two points against the mighty Punjab. Outswing bowler Joginder Sharma continues to impress, taking 3 for 66, while Amit Mishra grabs one.

Bengal has a possibility of reaching the semis with Ganguly likely to play more FC this season. So it is not a snooze match and an important match. :p

Bengal would only have Ganguly in their side, but none of the other batsmen really stand out. As for their bowlers, a lot will depend on Paul and Bose, as also spinner Lahiri, but none of these stand out either. Their biggest worry is the lack of a genuine all-rounder, and Sanyal's exclusion doesn't help.

Oh....and Joginder gets five again, for the THIRD time in the Elite league! He's getting closer to a Test spot, and may come even closer if he gets a big score.

His seasoned rival, JP Yadav, bowled 30 overs so far with 28 runs given away, and took 3 wickets. More later.

Rohan Gavaskar is playing well this season. Also the bowling with Paul, Bose and Lahiri as you mentioned - is good at FC level.

Bengal is performing well and you cant discount them so easily right now.

Mumbai and Railways have better bowling attacks, not to mention their batting is stronger. Moreover, Maharashtra will cause a few upsets here. Not to mention, TN may pose a threat too. Not easy for Bengal.

By the way, take a look at this player profile. Had he played for Mumbai, he would be on the selection map. Come to think of it, he wouldn't even make the Mumbai starting lineup, since that team's selection is very stable.

Maharashtra has struggled so far this season. Not easy for Bengal or any other team with just 2 of the 8 making the semis.

Makda 50* coming in at No. 11 for a 69 run last wicket partnership - almost as good as the first 9 wickets managed to follow up his good bowling performance.

But the lead of 70 or so neutralised by a 70 stand for Delhi between Dhawan and Chopra. Truly interesting match up!

Chawla and P.Kumar have build on a 63 run 8th wicket partnership for U.P. to increase their score to 349/7. Looking towards a draw here barring a Punjab collapse. But the battle of 1st inning lead is on.

Ramesh Powar gets 74 and Karthik gets 5 wickets. Pravin Kumar scores 70, along with Piyush Chawla's score over 50. The matches to watcch are Delhi v/s Gujarat, as well as Hyderabad v/s Haryana.
