Indian domestic season 2005-06

Haryana have won by 40 runs despite having a non-regular wicketkeeper. Joginder Sharma got 5 wickets, and so did Sachin Rana. Joginder has got 9 wickets and 95 runs in this match, in the Elite League. He may be a frontrunner this season and may make this Haryana side a surprise package in the Ranji trophy.

Factionalism in the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association has come on the field, as the two rival factions put up their own teams. Not surprisingly, both being present, an altercation took place, got out of hand, and the match referee called off the match. Disgusting.

Haryana have pinched a first-innings lead against the much-fancied Punjab, with Joginder getting five wickets yet again– he snared three of the top 4 Punjab batsmen, including ODI contender (???) Dinesh Mongia and captain Pankaj Dharmani. Second time in a row he's got five wickets since promotion to the Elite league. Both Haryana and Maharashtra (with imports) can be the dark horses in this series.

Keep a watch on the Haryana v/s Punjab match. It's reached a very interesting stage now, with Haryana at 80/4. Gagandeep is running hot.

yeah he is. gagandeep singh, joginder sharma, avishkar salvi, shib shankar paul have all turned in solid performances here. hopefully some contenders emerge for a test berth.

You mentioned Salvi– let's just see how he plays for the whole season. He was running hot in 2002/early 2003, but after those hand injuries, he was just not the same bowler. Joginder may be a surprise performer this season, with bat and ball. Gagandeep's a decent pick, but he's only a swing bowler, with little pace. Paul is very accurate and lasts very long, but so does a much better (and hard-hitting) batsman named JP Yadav.

Folks, watch the UP v/s Baroda match. Yusuf Pathan is now out in the middle, with a massive score of 400 behind him, and 100+ Jacob Martin at the other end.

Joginder out on 43. Haryana at 258/7 close to the end of the third day. They just need to bat out the third day, thne make a score of 300, then attack Punjab when they (Haryana) come out to bowl.

UPDATE: Haryana are at 332 for 8, with Mahesh Rawat a former opening batsman now wicketkeeping (an unhealthy trend in Indian domestic cricket), is one run close to his hundred. Haryana lead Punjab by 340 runs.

And yes, Jacob Martin got a double century. Yawn....

Already a result at the end of the third day- Bengal have defeated Delhi by 10 wickets. Delhi's leggie Chetanya Nanda got 5 wickets, but the batsmen capitualted yet again for less than 150, with a tiny victory target of 69 for Bengal.

Now Baroda are are in firm control in their match v/s UP, while Karnataka may just save the match against in in-control Mumbai, but hold on.......the Punjab v/s Haryana match may end in a draw....

Whatever it takes!!!
Railways did well to draw their match against TN. They were in a spot of bother but JP Yadav and another guy played well and got them out of it. Still, good to see TN starting off well this season.

KArnataka escaped with a draw, but UP were not so lucky as Baroda defeated them by an innings and 93 runs. Yusuf Pathan got 6 wickets in the match.

Here's one incident that didn't get reported on time here. Hyderabad players were targeting Ambati Rayudu and T Suman, who shifted to Andhra, with verbals. Shivlal Yadav Jr in particular was very vocal, especially toward Rayudu. Rayudu shot back with one– that Junior was there because of his father's influence. That angered Junior so much, he attacked Rayudu with a stump. Disgusting.

One more good all-round performance by Haryana's Joginder could have him in the Test side against England or Pakistan.

First day of Round 3: Mumbai's Swapnil Hazare, bowling first-change, skittled Bengal out for 171, taking 5 wickets for 36 in as many as 20 overs, while Salvi and Malvi took two each. Mumbai are at 38/2 now.

Wonder why the TN v/s Karnataka match was called off at 14:30. There was hardly any action in that one.

What has happened to Railways? They're in a precarious position at 188/8 against Gujarat, and losing JP Yadav for just 3 runs has 'derailed' them a great deal! It's been a disappointing day for all-rounders in Ranji.

But the joker in the pack, Maharashtra's Munaf Patel (who shot to fame as a tearaway pacer), smashed 3 sixes on his way to 41* (as of now), even as Maharashtra, with six specialist batsmen, are at 169/6. Sairaj, ex-Mumbai skipper, is with him at 48*.

Punjab are fielding a second-string side against Hyderabad, and are at 56/3, after skittling Hyd out for 200. Nothing interesting happening there, but for Gagandeep taking 4 wickets. All-rounders Reetinder Sodhi and Ishan Malhatra are not playing.

Yes, it's been a disappointing day for all-rounders, as seen in the Baroda v/s Haryana clash. The battle of the all-rounders (Joginder Sharma v/s Yusuf Pathan) turned into a damp squib. While Yusuf bowled 22 overs to get just one wicket for 84, Joginder was run out for just three. QUESTION: Who.....is.....Sachin Rana? He's a medium-pacer for Haryana with a decent batting record, but he's got 117 in 139 balls, against Zaheer and Rakesh Patel! Zaheer got two for not too many, while Rakesh got three, as Haryana are at 252/9.

Uttar Pradesh v/s Services: Services at 207/5. Piyush Chawla, the young leggie, got 3 wickets, while seamer Pravin Kumar got 1 for 28 in 19 overs. Watch this space.

Since Sehwag is out of the 2nd test against SL, assuming Yuvraj isn't sent to open like they did against Aus last year, who do you think should replace him? Who has been/is the best opener in Indian domestic cricket?

Got to be AA - then bring in a pace man and can drop the bowling allrounder Ganguly for a batsman.

One of Wasim Jaffer and Dheeraj Jadhav would be a good choice. Jadhav hasn't been among the runs so far, but Jaffer has scored 329 in two matches. Either would be a good choice.

END OF DAY TWO:

Mumbai were all out for 244, with Amol Mazumdar getting a century and Nishit Shetty going past 50. Bengal's spinner Ashok Jinda got five. Bengal are at 37/0. Mumbai may get two points if there is no result.

Railways did a lot more than make up for their dismal battign performance, skittling out Gujarat for 79, with Parida getting 4 wickets and Bangar getting two for five.

Tons by Ravneet Ricky and Dinesh Mongia got Punjab past 300. They've been boosted by tons from Ravneet Ricky (172) and Gaurav Gupta (107).

Baroda got the first-innings lead, but both all-rounders in the centre of action made up for yesterday's disappointments. Yusuf Pathan scored 3 with five fours, while Joginder got four wickets in a rush to leave Baroda at 306/9.

Maharashtra are making it tough to score for Delhi, but not too many wickets have fallen. Munaf just took one of the four wickets to fall. Bahutule bowled 31 overs for just 39 runs, but got no wicket.

Piyush Chawla got 5 wickets again, as Services are all out for 321. UP are at 106/2, with Raina getting 51.
