You mentioned Stuart Binny and Udit Patel– apparently, the then Karnataka captain, J Arun-Kumar, was against having them in the playing XI, because of which he lost captaincy and Sujith Somasunder got it. Good point about Rajesh Pawar- not too long ago, he was a favourite among selectors, and a sure-shot contender for an ODI spinner, and now he's gone.
mmm.. You should always expect these things in the Indian setup.

Arunkumar was a close contender with S Ramesh once for the test openers' slot.
It is a pity he does not figure in the scheme of things these days.

Yes, Rajesh Pawar once was a favourite, and now it is the turn of Y Pathan and S Parab to be the apple of the selectors' eyes.

Now this is the advantage of picking someone like VR Singh– The East Zone side were 223 for 5, but lost the next 5 wickets for just 58, with VR Singh taking 4 in just 5 overs. That can change the course of a match. Good show.

HB, do you work for WIPRO ? BTw, whereabouts in Chennai do you live ?

I'm from Pandalam in Kerala myself but I used to live in JafferKhanPet in Chennai.
I am from Triplicane in Chennai. I was actually working for INfosys for a couple of months, but now I have an offer with TCS. I am waiting to get their joining letter. I already got my offer letter though.

East Zone wins. Vasant Saravanan's 79 off 73 guides them to their victory trarget of 128.

West Zone have put themselves in a very strong position, having bowled out South for just 210, with Zaheer getting six wickets and Powar three. They've laready lost both openers on the way.

vrv singh, should be in the indian team. he, showed a lot of determination playing in this duleep trophy. he has been a lot of determination with both bat and ball scoring near run-a-ball 47 and 46 in both the innings. also, he cleaned up the the east zone tail quickly taking 4 lower-order wickets. he bowls with a big heart and is the type of bowler whi india needs.

vrv singh, is a tearaway pacer who bowls at over 140 kph and also, has the makings of a good all-rounder as well. v have been missing an all-rounder for sometime after kapil dev and manoj prabhakar retired. however, recently we found 2 all-rounders in irfan pathan and jp yadav.

Looks like everyone's forgotten about the Duleep Trophy matches going on. Joginder Sharma, who played in that ODI series in Bangladesh, got 6 wickets bowling second-change as the Zimbabwean reserves were skittled out for just 94. Amit Mishra got 4. North posted a massive total of 358, with openers Ravneet Ricky and Shikhar Dhawan posting centuries, while Services' Yashpal Singh (averages over 60 in FC, a Tier II hero) got over 50. All-rounders Maninder Bisla and Joginder Sharma didn't score too many. However, the Haryana swing bowler's performance should add one more option for the selectors, though he needs to work harder on bowling with an old ball. His fielding is very good and his batting resembles that of Mohammed Kaif, but he needs a little more power.

Already Balaji has a problem here in the match between South and Central- he's got two for 98 at the end of the second day. Central have posted a huge total of 473 with Amit Pagnis scoring 142, with support from Jyoti Yadav (87), Piyush Chawla (60) and Harvinder Singh (50), but a draw can't be rled out, given South are at 127 for 3, with Bangar getting one wicket for 6 runs in six overs. Not again..............but dinesh Karthik made a quick 50 in 57 deliveries, with a few big hits. Or is this a small ground?

Good batting pitches sometimes produce those figures. It doesn't necessarily mean that Balaji bowled badly. And again, why do you always disregard Kaarthick's batting performances?

No doubt that happens on good battign pitches, but when you're talking of Balaji, you're talking of one of the national team's strike bowlers. When he's struggling, it's a matter of concern. Besides, none of the wicketkeepers in India can make their batting count, except the freakish Dhoni, but he needs to work hard on his wicketkeeping.

Dhoni is yet to produce one (count it, ONE) knock of substance against a tough bowling attack under tough circumstances. He is in the side for his HITTING (not BATTING) abilities.

That's all he needs to do. You don't need him to get a hundred or fifty in every innings- leave that to the Tendulkars, Dravids and Kaifs. His real problem is his scratchy wicketkeeping. They talk of getting Parthiv Patel back, but what have Vinayak Samant and Ajay Ratra done wrong? They're both more seasoned and better than all three options available, and even UP's Amir Khan is worth a try. If these are the options for a wicketkeeper-batsman, then it's time the selectors look for their best specialist keeper.

How much have you seen of this guy that you can so convincingly say he is worth a try.

Now you are being very finnicky Pratyush :@

Whats the point in having zillions of Johnny(Arlott)-come-latelies writing in the media (including electronic) if we expect critics to actually go and watch games/players to comment on them ?

How many people can actually name the wicket keepers of the lesser states ? At least that is something to be admired

Amir Khan plays for UP, who may just be the best fielding side in the Indian domestic scene. They tied the last season's ROD final, and he scored a short but effective innings that took his team so close to victory.

Wonder how UP will perform this season. Now they have Piyush Chawla, a leggie who can score more than a few runs, but a lot will depend on how Raina will perform and whether Kaif gets enough matches.

Anyway, Central won the match agaisnt South, with Piyush Chawla getting six wickets in the match, with a score of over 60. Except for Pagnis and Sriram, both of whom scored tons, none of the others stood out.

You asked and you shall receive :p

I know in the other thread you admitted taking back what you said about him being a hitter and not a batsman, but I couldn't help seeing the hilarity in this post followed by his 183 :D

Maybe I should make more such posts about the other guys as well. I won't mind being proved wrong so long as India are winning. :D

So you havent seen much of this guy. But as SJS said, it is to be admired you can name the keeper from U.P. A lot of journalists who try to show they know so much about the game in India may not be able to do the same.
