IIRC, the argument is, Jordan had an extremely talented crew( and were on the rise) and so were Benetton. With a prodigal talent like Schumi arriving, many threw in their lot with him as well - IIRC, for the last 10 years or so, Brawn, Schumi and several other designers have stayed together.Schumie started racing in F1 in 1991 for Jordan, then was signed up by Benetton in 1992. Benetton, at the time, was just another car filling back-grid places. Within 6 races they had their first win and stayed up in the constructors championship all the time Schumie raced for them. After he went to Ferrari, Benetton dropped back into obscurity.
In 1996 Schumie went to Ferrari, a team who hadn't had a win in 20 years. For four years they worked on improving the car while Schumie raced it and did better and better until they started winning.

Quite right. Ferrari were dismal when he joined in 96. He really worked hard with the team to turn around their fortunes in 97 and onwards. Also it explains why his car always performs better than his teammate's.age_master said:His good cars do come from alot of testing, he is by far the best test driver going round in terms of his consistent lapping and also technical knowlege, and ability to work with engineers.
This is part of the reason that he has had so much success which is often overlooked.
They weren't dismal...they were incapable of winning the championship but they still won at least one race a season making them better than Honda are now for example. Ferrari also aquired the Brawn/Bryne combination in 1996 which made Schumi win loads at Benetton. Plus Ferrari have made no secret of the fact that they always put more effort into Schumi's care than the other driver's car.nikhil1772 said:Quite right. Ferrari were dismal when he joined in 96. Schumi is an excellent tester and a really hard worker- both on his fitness( fittest F1 driver going around even to this day) and testing the car.nikhil1772 said:Quite right.
