English Domestic Season 2011

"I got out twice in one day to Steven Finn, better blame something else" ?

Or, even, better, as put by Jonathan Liew in the Telegraph: Essex’s predicament was attributable more to their own ineptitude rather than their opponents’ inspiration. As Middlesex opener Scott Newman retorted moments after Bopara’s indiscretion: “Dry your eyes, big lad. No feet movement and loose shots is a recipe for nicking off.
Lol. That's a pretty decent burn.

Ravinder's whinge adds weight to the body of opinion (my own, esstentially) that he's a bit of a softcock.

Graham Onions is back among the wickets again, he took Lyth for a duck in his first over. Has been wayward since, though, conceding plenty of extras. Yorkshire now 43/1.
Yeah, good for England's depth Onions is back. Looked impressive in his all too brief test stint but did fear another Simon Jones style injury tragedy in the making.

Seems a genuinely top bloke and a thinking cricketer too; spoke very well in his Sky stints during his convalescence. Good to see one of the good guys doing well.

Run 4 and 4 overthrows is my guess.

Or a run 2 and 6 buzzers, but that really would've been the worst throw ever.
I presume it's run 2 and 4 overthrows, because you get 2 runs awarded for a no ball in county cricket now don't you?

Onions bowled a 6nb against Yorks which was a no ball, going for a 4.

Ah, I was under the impression only the actual runs scored off no-balls were recorded.

For instance an NB with no runs scored off it would be 0nb, counting 1 to sundries (or 2 in CC).

Yeah there is going to be plenty of competition for the pace bowling spots over the next few years.

I suppose we will be going in with a starting attack of

Broad, Anderson, Tremlett, but Onions will still be fighting with the likes of Finn, Bresnan & Shazhad for one of those spots with another tier below them with the likes of Woakes, James Harris, Plunkett. At least it means that we don't have to go back to the like of Harmison and clowns like Mahmood are far enough away from selection.
Yeah, England's bowling depth looks pretty enviable.

If we say the bowling attack is

Anderson - 212 wickets
Swann - 128 wickets
Broad - 99 wickets
Tremlett - 30 wickets

Then that's a pretty decent first XI in terms of talent and experience.

Our 2nd string attack:

Panesar - 126 wickets
Finn - 46 wickets
Onions - 28 wickets
Bresnan - 25 wickets

Looks pretty good as well. I'd say it's a pretty promising state of affairs when your entire first choice attack could all go down injured tomorrow and you could still field a bowling attack with over 200 Test wickets between them.

Then, amongst players who are still playing Championship cricket who might be useful in an absolutely dire one-off emergency:

Hoggard - 248 wickets
Harmison - 222 wickets
Sidebottom - 79 wickets

Then throw in promising youngsters like Rashid, with 253 FC wickets already to his name, Chris Woakes (176) and Shazad (94), and things look pretty amazing in terms of young talent available.

Haha, Somerset.... Rikki taking a 5-fer

Actually think that your 2nd choice bowling attack > our 1st choice, regarding the point about the Poms bowling depth.

Richardson has had a very good match, scoring 67 and 73*. Now obviously the Colonel will come back in next match, if he's fit. But i wonder whether there will be any thought of playing Richardson as a batsman in the future.
