Only cosmetic changes this time round, the West Indies being boosted by avoiding a repeat of the previous Whitewash against South Africa.

RELEASE 13

Home Rankings
1 Australia 1211
2 South Africa 1152
3 India 973
4 +1 West Indies 934
5 +1 England 861
6 +1 New Zealand 801
7 -3 Sri Lanka 746
8 Pakistan 659
9 Zimbabwe 380
10 Bangladesh 33

Sri Lanka's home whitewash that prompted Hashan Tillakaratne's resignation as skipper also precipitated a huge fall-off in their home ranking as their previous victory is scratched from the records

Away Rankings
1 Australia 1977
2 New Zealand 1266
3 South Africa 1018
5 Pakistan 966
4 England 886
6 India 864
7 Sri Lanka 625
8 West Indies 296
9 Zimbabwe 190
10 Bangladesh 54

No changes position-wise, however Australia's lead as master tourists extends to an incredible 711 points. Bangladesh finally rack up some points, thanks to the Zimbabwean rainy season

Overall Rankings
1 Australia 1568 (+113)
2 South Africa 1085 (-20)
3 New Zealand 1020 (+15)
4 India 922 (+6)
5 England 874 (-5)
6 Pakistan 821 (-13)
7 Sri Lanka 693 (-114)
8 West Indies 596 (-2)
9 Zimbabwe 279 (+6)
10 Bangladesh 45 (+30)

Unsurprisingly it's Australia and Sri Lanka who are the big movers in this update, as Sri Lanka are cast adrift from the upper group and within range of the West Indies (who will fall further away from the pace once the Wisden Trophy completes its course). Bangladesh triple their total, but still have less than one-sixth of Zimbabwe's points, whilst New Zealand's hard-fought drawn series against South Africa cuts the Proteas' lead over the Black Caps from 100 points to 65.

India are within 100 of the third placed Kiwis, and a whitewash in Pakistan would halve this, whereas a Pakistan comeback to win 2-1 would only close the gap between the two Asian neighbours by 21 points. It's all India's to gain.

RELEASE 14: WEST INDIES v ENGLAND and PAKISTAN v INDIA

HOME TABLE
1 Australia 1245
2 South Africa 1181
3 India 993
4 +1 England 871
5 +1 New Zealand 831
6 -2 West Indies 821
7 Sri Lanka 776
8 Pakistan 653
9 Zimbabwe 405
10 Bangladesh 33

The West Indies suffer a two-place drop after their joint-heaviest home series defeat of all time at the hands of England. New Zealand are the unwitting beneficiaries as they also overtake the West Indies to make their first entry into the Home top half.

AWAY TABLE
1 Australia 1936
2 New Zealand 1235
3 South Africa 998
4 +1 England 991
5 -1 Pakistan 956
6 India 909
7 Sri Lanka 607
8 West Indies 296
9 Zimbabwe 183
10 Bangladesh 54

As the West Indies have fallen down the home table, England climb the away table, to within seven points of South Africa after their 3-0 triumph. A whitewash would have been sufficient to claim third and cross 1,000 points. Nonetheless, it's a fine result for Michael Vaughan's boys.

Overall Rankings
1 Australia 1567 (-1)
2 South Africa 1089 (+4)
3 New Zealand 1022 (+2)
4 India 951 (+29)
5 England 935 (+61)
6 Pakistan 804 (-17)
7 Sri Lanka 702 (+9)
8 West Indies 543 (-53)
9 Zimbabwe 287 (+8)
10 Bangladesh 45 (n/c)

There have been no positional changes despite two enthralling series, however there have been several large movements in terms of points. India and Pakistan haven't changed too much because, even though the series hadn't been played before in recent times, the system 'expected' a fairly close result (I havent bothered getting my head round exactly how yet) so an India win only gave them a smallish boost - but enough to keep a resurgent England (their highest total since September) behind them . The West Indies fall further back into ignominy, and the rest of the status quo is maintained.

Hi Neil, after looking at your ratings today I may be able to help you to get them noticed by the ICC.

Yesterday, while i was at University one of my new lecturers for the new term turns out to be Tony Lewis the 'co-inventor' of the Duckworth/Lewis system. I could pass on your rankings to him if you want me to, surely he will have some contacts as he still works closely with statistics at my university.

Just a thought but maybe beneficial to you, give me an email at kishanteli@hotmail.com if you are interested.

Thanks

P.S. Very impressive work :D

Not a particularly significant update, so I'll just provide the Overall table (no positional changes anywhere)

1 Australia 1567 (n/c)
2 South Africa 1093 (+4)
3 New Zealand 1023 (+1)
4 India 952 (+4)
5 England 939 (+1)
6 Pakistan 799 (-5)
7 Sri Lanka 718 (+16)
8 West Indies 544 (+1)
9 Zimbabwe 262 (-25)
10 Bangladesh 41 (-4)

Winning at home to Sri Lanka is now worth marginally more, and success in Zimbabwe worth marginally less (we did flippin' murder 'em..)

I realise that this is my first post, but I was wondering if these rankings were going to be updated at some point. I actually arrived here after running a search for the ICC Test Table, and didn't bother looking again after Google came up with this instead.

Neil will sort them out in a couple of days - just got to get through a university exam and a resultant nervous breakdown first.

Bear with him - he's from Lincolnshire.

RELEASE 16 - West Indies v Bangladesh and England v New Zealand

Thank <insert deity here> that's over. If anyone here is ever tempted to study Geography at University, don't. Don't ask why, just don't.

Right, back to the cricket. Seem to have forgotten totally about the West Indies v Bangladesh series (er.. exam stress?) but I'm not likely to forget about England-New Zealand!

Home Rankings
1 Australia 1240
2 South Africa 1186
3 +1 England 1029
4 -1 India 985
5 New Zealand 866
6 +1 Sri Lanka 772
7 -1 West Indies 761
8 Pakistan 656
9 Zimbabwe 362
10 Bangladesh 33

It's less of India losing third place than England gaining it after their emphatic 3-0 whitewash of the Kiwis to expunge memories of 1999's debacle, and the strength of New Zealand overseas also serves to magnify the boost to the English total. The West Indies' failure to beat Bangladesh at St Lucia is punished, as their descent continues. The top three home sides only have two home series defeats between them - England and South Africa losing against Australia.

Away Rankings
1 Australia 1983
2 New Zealand 1045
3 South Africa 1008
4 England 993
5 Pakistan 959
6 India 924
7 Sri Lanka 656
8 West Indies 292
9 Zimbabwe 183
10 Bangladesh 116

No positional changes, but New Zealand are brought within range of the chasing four after their heavy defeat at the hands of England. Bangladesh are now well and truly within range of the Zimbabweans after their momentus, century-filled draw in the Caribbean.

Overall Rankings
1 Australia 1587 (+20)
2 South Africa 1097 (+4)
3 +2 England 1010 (+71)
4 India 955 (+3)
5 -2 New Zealand 950 (-73)
6 Pakistan 807 (+8)
7 Sri Lanka 721 (+3)
8 West Indies 526 (-18)
9 Zimbabwe 267 (+5)
10 Bangladesh 82 (+41)

The combination of England's big win and New Zealand's heavy defeat means that the two sides swap positions in the Overall table, trading off a huge 144 points between them (the third highest in the rankings' history - after Pakistan's thrashing in South Africa cost them 150 over Christmas 2002, and India took 147 out of Australia last winter).

India remain in fourth place, inbetween the two, whilst the West Indies fall further from the chasing pack. Congratulations to Bangladesh, who doubled their ranking points total after their performance in the West Indies. Australia's big gain comes from the fact that their Ashes win in 2001 in England is now worth more - they're the only side to win on their last tour here.
