The first super cup match was a trip to Northampton to face a team lacking stars but not effort. One change to the side saw Jellett replaced by Gray, who had been impressive for the second team.

Northants won the toss and put us into bat. According to Sean Bennett we started like a house on fire, and since he's the only one with a conviction for arson we were inclined to believe him. half way through the 7th over we were 61-0 but then Vimes edged Anderson behind for 26. While Bennett merrily continued on his way wickets fell at the other hand, though we reached 183-4 after 28 overs. Then Innes bowled a wicket maiden, including Gray for a duck. Bennett was finally out for 108 from 73 balls with the score 214-7. Sadly we were all out for 254 with over 6 overs unbowled.

Northants got the start they wanted through Loye and Rollins and Warren continued the good work after Rollins departure. Cloete tried to pull the Web back in to the game taking 4-42 but it was the failure of the other spinners to stem the runs that lost the match. Halsey in particular took some punishment, though he did try his new self titled 'magic ball', a variation on the long hop that bounces twice. Northants got the runs with 4 wickets and 10 balls to spare. The web's inability to bat for the full 50 cost them.

After the match it was time for the new boys in the squad to have their induction night. Camps and Scott didn't quite know what hit them. First off it was to the bar for the preliminary drink both to be chinned of course. In Scott's case it was an Irish Yoghurt (Guiness and Baileys) and for Camps it was a 'Time of the Month' (don't ask). More drinks and then we got on the coach for the journey home, during which the newbies were forced to do funnells and Camps became the first to chuck.

Back home we went to a bar, Ash Chaulk had arranged for the 2 ugliest girls in town to be there and the lads were made to dance with them to soppy songs such as Westlife's flying without wings, Scott seemed to be getting in to it so it was time to move on to the next phase of the plan and the dirty pints. 16 shots of various spriits in one pint glass topped up with wife beater, instant wastedness. To finish the evening off we moved on to the peppermint hippo club for some high class lap dances.

Now accepted in to the squad Liam and Nick were fined for non attendance at training the next day.

The board is delighted to announce the signing of young fast bowler Liam Camps on a 2 year contract. Having impressed in the academy with his right arm lively pacers and also show he can bat a bit, Camps will be pressing for a game this year
Yay! Can't wait to smack Rikki in the head with a 62mph bouncer. Then give him my slower one...

Felt like I had some good rhythm coming together and pleased with my 405-ball 84.

It feels so strange to be commenting on myself in a simulation. :)

After the dissapointing start to the super league campaign it was important to get some points on the board in the next game against Essex. There were first games of the season for Ash Chaulk and Rueben Thomas and an early debut for preseason signing Liam Camps, called in to open the bowling and fill the number 8 batting slot. He claimed he wasn't that nervous about making his debut but he did spend two hours before the start of the game on the john.

Unfortunately, due to some gross mishandling of the club's finances, there is no money available to hire support staff this year, and so the club has introduced a policy of using those not in the matchday squad to fulfill these duties. Accordingly Neil Pickup was the car park attendant for the day, Malone and Blewy were on security, Nathan Hoy and Dylan Jellett were in charge of catering (several lawsuits pending) whilst Tom Halsey was chief pot washer. It is likely that this scheme will continue for the forseeable future, under the guise of the 'personal development program' to provide the players with skills they can use after their playing days are over.

The match itself was a thriller, Essex chose to bat first and it looked a lovely pitch. Mr Wright got rid of Stephenson with a snorter but Robinson and Habib made CW pay for some wayward bowling, particularly from new boy Camps. Habib was in sensational form hitting 137 from just 104 balls and receiving good support from Irani and Foster. Essex amassed a formidable 322-6. Liam Camps' debut figures were 10-0-86-0 and Cloete was almost as expensive with 2-80. Mr Wright's 10-1-46-3 showed how it should have been done.

In reply the Web got a good start, Bennett hit 30 from 22, Vimes 73 from 43 and Chaulk 55 from 44 but from 152-1 the Web fell to 184-4 and then 209-5 as the middle order failed to make an impact. Bluefox and Gray kept the chase on but when they had both gone the score was 278-7 and Rueben Thomas had come out to join new boy Camps. They then blew away everything Essex could throw at them to put on an unbeaten 48 and secure the victory with 4.1 overs to spare. Camps finished 35* and Thomas 23*. Good win

A personal 'ouch' with the ball, but relieved to help bring home a win with the bat. That had potential for tears otherwise. Above all happy to debut at List-A level and that the team won.
