New Zealand v England 1st Test Match - 26 Feb 2004 **********************************************

New Zealand won the toss and began well, a solid opening partnership of 91, but they were pegged back to 121-3 with Cloete taking 2 wickets. Then a massive 212 run partnership between McMillan and Richardson put NZ in command, Stephen Fleming, batting at 7, hit 94 to leave NZ all out for 500. McMillan top scored with 155 and Malone was the pick of the bowlers with 4-86.

Vimes and Bennett put the best possible reply, adding 220 for the first wicket, both scored centuries, Vimes' 111 his first in tests. All the middle order got starts but only Nichani passed 50 and he only made 52. But Malone and Chapman added 80 for the eight wicket and Malone made 73 as England got a 7 run lead.

With a sniff of victory, Smethurst and Hoggard took both openers early and only Man of the Match McMIllan came to terms with some hostile and effective bowling. Malone was the pick as he took 4 vital wickets including Mcmillan for 83 to finish with match figures of 8-130. NZ were skittled for 190 leaving 183 to win.

Bennett and Vimes did it again adding 132 for the opening wicket before Bennett fell for 56, he was the only loss as England cruised to a 9 wicket win with Vimes finishing 91*.

New Zealand v England
2nd Test Match - 5 Mar 2004
**********************************************

A Kiwi backlash was to be expected, but by winning the toss and batting, England hoped to quell the storm early on. Another good start was given by Vimes and Bennett with a partnership of 66, but after Bennett fell, Cloete got a duck and Vimes went for 57. Pietersen made 29 but Nichani and Bluefox batted England into a decent position, Nichani made 70 and Bluefox 151, good support came from Malone's 46* as England made 402.

Chapman bowled a good spell to leave NZ 82-3 but Mcmillan and Richardson again rescued NZ with a 109 run partnership, Chapman dismissed both and Hoggard got in on the act but a frustrating last wicket partnership of 38 let NZ get to 304. Chapman finished with 5-91 and Hoggard 4-44.

Needing quick runs with time running out, England were perhaps a little too cavalier, Martin enjoyed some success with 5-44. Vimes hit another 50 and Nichani a classy 103 but little else came and England were all out for 260.

NZ required an improbable 359 from 71 overs and they were quite content to play for the draw. Malone's early wicket was not added to for some time and though Chapman took 2 NZ never looked in trouble. A draw but England can no longer lose the series.

3rd Test Match - 13 Mar 2004
**********************************************

The last test match of a long year and England were looking to finish it off in style with only the ODI's to go. England batted first and recoverd from the loss of Bennett to get to 199-1, Vimes hit 95, his 6th succesive test match innnings of over 50, Cloete scored debut test match century with 150. The rest of the order was mildly unimpressive, after being 275-3 to be bowled out for 390 was disappointing but it was still a good score.

NZ began their reply well 79 were added for the first wicket but then Chapman struck thrice to leave them 88-3. Mills and Vincent hit 50's but wickets continued to fall to leave NZ out for 269 and a healthly lead for England. Chapman took 5-76.

It was now time to pile on the runs and Bennett did just that, after Vimes, Cloete and Nichani had fallen early, he teamed up with Peitersen to add 203 for the 4th wicket and was finnaly 5th man out for 177. England declare on 330-5.

Lou Vincent and Mills again provided the only real opposition, Chapman taking another 4 while the rest were shared between Cloete, Hoggard and Malone. NZ were all out for 202 and England took the series 2-0. Bennett got Man of the Match, but Vimes was given Man of The Series.

Eyes not spreadsheets
That's not realistic.

The NZ team didn't allow the opposition's opening bowlers to score their maiden Test half centuries in a last wicket stand of over 100!

One Day International Series
Not good reading

1st ODI - England 238-5(Vimes 83, Peitersen 76*) beat NZ 237-6(McMillan 97*) by 5 wickets

After a succesful test series England were hoping to finish the year on a high in the ODI's. The first one went well, Good tight bowling from England restrivted NZ to 237 on a good wicket and then Vimes set up an east victory and won the MOM.

2nd ODI - NZ 265-6(Mills 122*) beat England 259 all out by 6 runs

a tight match in which the inablity of any of the English batsmen to pass 50 (Vimes top scored with 47) left them ultimately just short, NZ back in the series.

3rd ODI - England 255-5(Bennett 69, Pietersen 66, Bluefox 66*) beat NZ 251-4 (Bell 101, McMillan 67, Chapman 3-37) by 5 wickets

A good chase to win this one, three good fifties, and good bowling from Chapman to restrict NZ.

4th ODI - New Zealand 213-6 beat England 212 all out by 4 wickets

A poor performance by England at the wicket, they didn't use 5 overs of their innings and that proved costly, as another 20 runs could have proved crucial. No batsman from either side passed 50 and this is the fourth match where the side batting second has won.

5th ODI - New Zealand 237-6 beat England 125 all out by 112 runs

A horrible batting performance to end the year and give New Zealand the seires victory. New Zealand's score was good but not unassailable and yet England were never up with the run rate and they lost 2 wickets in the first over and never recovered. Not a great way to finish the season.

2 youth players have been signed, any takers? An 18 year old RFM and a 19 year old LM. First come first served.

And ICC has dealt us a severe blow with Buggsy Malone being sidelined for 22 Weeks with a broken finger!

The board is delighted to announce the signing of young fast bowler Liam Camps on a 2 year contract. Having impressed in the academy with his right arm lively pacers and also show he can bat a bit, Camps will be pressing for a game this year

Lancashire v Cricket Web
County Championship - D1 - 24 Apr 2004
**********************************************

The fixture monkeys had dealt CW the hardest possible fixture to open the County Championship season, an away trip to fortress Old Trafford. If the Web could emerge with a draw, or as miracles do happen, a win then the quest for the title would surely take a massive boost.

The only abscence for the Web was the unfortunate Malone, his injury sustained when his latest woman slammed the door on his hand in a fit of anger. Several squad members returned to preseason training with stories to tell, Neil Pickup was sporting a new aerodynamic hairstlye and Halsey had piled a few pounds on. Kearsley had a bit of a wild off season and rumour has it that there will be a couple of little DK's running around in 7 or 8 months, he already has an appearance of Jerry Springer booked. Rueben Thomas and Mr Wright set up a fairly successful adult cinema and Ash Chaulk followed Elton John on his world tour. Meanwhile Scott Craze and Jamee Gray took off season employment as street cleaners.

The first side select payed homage to CW's international stars, only Scott Craze and Malone missing from those on tour. Mr Wright and Dave Kearsley provided the pace options whilst Jellett took the gloves and Richards bolstered the middle order, aswell as contributing to a strong spin unit with Halsey also included.

Lancs won the toss and batted first, the opening pair almost seeing off the new ball, Driver falling in the last over of Kearsley's spell. Chapman then took 2 wickets, and with Halsey and Cloete also getting in on the act Lancs were 82-5. However Roberts and Schofield held them up before the former was run out. But Haynes came in and played the best knock of the innings, making 69 from 152 balls to take Lancashire past 200, though 228 was still a poor score. Chapman finished with 4-61.

Succesive 50 partnership's between Vimes and Bennett and Vimes and Nichani put CW in a strong position before the 4th wicket partnership of 137 slammed the advantage home, Cloete made 79. Richards then continued on with Bluefox, adding a further 91 toghether before Richards fell for 124. Bluefox went on to make 83 as CW were bowled out for 450.

A decent bowling performance was all that was required, and after some resistance early on, the persistance paid of. Lancs crumbled from 85-1 to 133-6 with chapman and Halsey the chief architects and Lancs struggled to 257 all out thanks to some tail wagging from Martin and Schofield. CW were left with just 36 to win, Halsey finished with 5-59

2 wickets were lost in the chase but the Web won by 8 wickets with Vimes 23*. Richards won the MOM in a result that bodes well for the season.
