Hampshire next at Webford Road, not a lot to say, Hampshire are cr*p and we lost to them. Laney top scored for them with 69 and Cloete was the pick of the bowlers with 2-44 as they made 216-7. We plunged to 37-5 and never really recovered despite Bluefox's 81. Morris took 4-43 for Hampshire and we fell 8 runs short. We'll have to win the last two to be in with a chance of qualifiying.

Changes had to be made for the next match, and they were. Out went Chaulk, Hoy, Wright and Thomas. In came Weber, Blewy, Pickup and Hall. To New Road we travelled, and as Bennett remarked on arrival, it didn't look very new. The pitch looked enticing though, and we were glad to be put it.

After 17 overs and languishing at 48-2 with Weber and Vimes back in the pavilion and Bennett having scored 24 from 45 balls, it didn't look to promising. The young opener then showed his international class though scoring 100 runs from his next 60 balls and brutalising the attack. He received admirable support from Blewy(43 from 54*) and Cloete before the latter launched the final assualt finishing 92* from 62 balls. The total of 335-6 was formidable.

Bowling is undoubtedly where we are struggling at the moment and though Hall got an early wicket and was tidy, his opening partner Nath struggled and was brought off after 5 overs. Chapman then bowled tidily but Hick was looking confident at the crease and he really launched into Pickup and Cloete. Things were looking dicey at one point 181-3 with plenty of overs left. But the introduction of part timer Blewy, who took 2-12 form 2 overs, turned the game in CW's favour. Runs continued to leak, but Nath at least took a wicket and the reintroduction of Hall settled the game, He removed Rawnsley and Liptrot before Chapman got the all important wicket of Hick for 146 from 112 balls and Hall got the last man to finish with 5-41.

A win by 68 runs and still in the hunt.

Must work on that economy. 2/54 just not good enough...

The tension before the game was palpable, as losing finalists last year the side were expected to cruise throught the group stages this year, instead they have struggled somewhat, but came into the final match knowing a victory would be enough to see them through.

They put Leics in and never gave them a chance to build a competetive total, Patrick Nath bowled well first up but it was his partner Hall who struck, removing the dangerous Maddy and it was Chapman who made the game, taking the wickets of No's 2,3,4 and 5 and with Cloete removing Grove Leics fell to 124-6. Hammond and Crowe eeked out some more runs but Nath came
back to clean up the tail and bowl Leics out for 186.

Sam Vimes was the anchor for the reply, pacing his innings well for 77 from 100 balls and Blewy and Weber saw CW home to a relatively easy win with 6.3 overs to spare. In to the QF draw, we face Gloucs.

Come the end of the season if there is a place, I feel I could certainly offer something to the CW side, at least in the third XI. ;)

There are some contractual disputes currently, but they are likely to be settled in the new year. Probably Sunday/Monday

I've heard it's because Bugs wants financial compensation for the emotional stress of his injury as well the weight gain due the injury.

The board has managed to settle the contract disputes and the cricket will now be allowed to continue. The outcome of the settlement is being kept strictly secret but it is rumoured that several players, including injured star Malone were forced to take massive pay cuts as the board seeks to exercise prudence.

The first game back was in the county championship against Yorkshire. CW got off to a good start when the Yorkies chose to bat and lost Mcgrath for a duck, trapped in front by Nath. Lumb was also dismissed cheaply Vimes taking the catch off the bowling of Hall. Richardson and Wood put on 37 but the introduction of Chapman led to the destruction of the middle order. Richardson was first to go, and with the runout of Craven coming next, the rest of the order meekly surrendered to the spin kings magic. Chapman took 6-26 and Yorkshire crashed to 123 all out.

Vimes and Bennett ensured a decent start with an opening partnership of 94, but the Web then collapsed to 130-5, before Cloete and Gray rescued them with a partnership of 129. Cloete recorded a brilliant 135, with Bennett scoring 52. The Web posted 326 all out.

Yorkshire did rather better second time out than the first and the top 3 offered good resistance first up. But after reaching 108-2 they slumped to 136-6 as Chapman adn Cloete put in good spells. They were rescued from complete humiliation by a partnership of 104 between Hamilton(45) and Wise(60) but the total of 250 left just 48 to win. Chapman again starred with the ball taking 5-47.

The chase was not without a wobble as CW lost 3 wickets, but the result was never in doubt and Chapman picked up the MOM award dexservedly.
