Can you beat for the cricket guru title?

haha i wasn't going to but since you asked....

You need to answer both questions to toughen it up.

Who has the highest Test batting average among players who have been dismissed?

Who has the highest Test bowling average among players who have taken a wicket?

So when do I get to ask mine ?
Okay to settle this one.

Even if my answer to Tapioca's question is correct, I dont get to ask.

Deja Moo can ask next but the correct answer will ony get an alpplause but not the right to ask a question.

The Bryce will take his 'original' right to ask a question and the answer to that will decide on the continuation of the GURU TITLE.

OKAY ??

SJS, looks like you didn't see my previous post. There is one record older than Bannerman's
Answer to Tapioca's question -Re oldest breakable record must be - oldest Test Debutant - being James Southerton at 49 years 119 days.

Also WE Midwinter - first Englishman to play for Australia. (subsequently played 4 Tests for England between his tests for Australia.

or is it something to do with MCG being the inaugural Test ground ?

Anyway here is something about Billy Midwinter from Wisden cricinfo player page of interest-

Billy Midwinter, who played Test cricket for both England and Australia, was a sound batsman and useful medium-pacer, was born in Gloucestershire, but after emigrating he made his Test debut against England, in the inaugural Test at Melbourne in 1876-77. He played eight Tests for Australia, either side of his four appearances for England, which came in Australia in 1881-82. Midwinter was famously kidnapped by WG Grace in 1878, when he was due to play for Australia against Middlesex, but was instead taken to play for Gloucestershire against Surrey at The Oval  . He suffered mental problems after the death of his wife and two children, and died in an asylum in Melbourne in 1890.

Who's turn is it to ask next question Tapioca or Deja Moo ?

I suspect Deja Moo now gets his turn.

I didnt even think because of this confusion regarding the turn.

Is it a test record ?

Tapioca

Southerton's is the oldest breakable record. It is unlikely to be broken, but at the same time we have a recent 47 (or so) year old ODI debutant in Nolan Clarke.

Bannerman's is the record for %. The next two in that list are Slater (123/184 in 1998/9 Ashes) and Laxman 167/26?

Who is next ?

-------

Re MCG, Midwinter etc - the question specifically excluded 'first something' sort of records.

only outs are taken into consideration as its difficult to see every single decision made by the umpires (all figures after the 2nd test)

Which of these is the question :p :p :p

All right.....I'm taking my turn now.....

Here goes. Whoever gets all 3 correct gets to ask the next question. In case no one gets all 3 right within 24 hours, the first to get 2 correct gets a turn to ask his question:

1)7 bowlers from this country have taken test match hat-tricks . 6 of them played for the same first class team in the domestic competition. Which first class team are we talking about ?

2)5 umpires officiated in this test match , including the twelfth man from one of the teams . Which test are we talking about , and who was that only 12th man to ever officiate as an umpire in the same match ?

3)Who was the first number 11 to score a First class century ?

Since 24 hours have passed after the posting of the answers and Deja Moo has not come back to confirm the answers, I am going ahead with the next question. (assuming all three answers to be correct)

(Deja Moo, please confirm this when you next visit this thread.)

Question -

In the first Test of the current India v Australia Test series, Glen Mcgrath achieved a minor landmark/record . What was it ?

Most Ducks?
Correct.

Glenn McGrath topped the tally of bowlers to inflict most ducks in Test cricket when he won a LBW shout against Aakash Chopra in his favour in first innings. It was 80th time McGrath was returning a batsman back to pavilion without letting him open his account.

He moved ahead of West Indian Courtney Walsh and Pakistan’s Wasim Akram, who had dismissed 79 batsmen on duck. At the end of this Test, McGrath has taken his tally to 82 ducks from 98 matches.

Ferd, over to you for next question. :bye:

Which was the only test match in the 20th century to have one batsman from each team carry the bat through the innings? Which batsmen completed this feat?

It has never bene done !

PS : Just to clarify. :D

Carrying the bat through the innings means :
1. the batsman opened the innings
2. he played right through AND remained unbeaten (not retired hurt or ill)
3. All other batsmen in the team available to bat (other than any retired or ill) were out
4. The innings was not incomplete ie wickets were left due to any reason (declared, won, time ran out, weather intervened etc)

Ferd, I agree with SJS has not ever been done!!
But I wonder this instance where it came close to being done was what you had in mind.
Arthur Morris being last out for Australia, and Len Hutton carrying his bat through for England.
