The Futures League was a decent idea - it should have been a supplement to the 2nd XI rather than a replacement though.
Thing was Worrall was at Melbourne CC, only played one full season of First Grade cricket and South Australia swooped on him (he played a 2nd XI game towards the end of the season). So he came through the lower grades, but it's not like he beat the door down with 1st XI wickets.Obviously I'm a dinosaur but unless things have radically changed since my day, more credence should be given to weight of performances at grade level than this pathway bs
Playing against men is/was simply different and generally harder than playing against kids your own age no matter how talented they might be.
Take Jake Doran as an example.
Everyone agrees that he is one of the most talented youngsters in world cricket but I was amazed to discover yesterday that he has only ever scored 1 first grade hundred.
IMO, there is no way in the wide world that he should have been guaranteed a spot in first class cricket (effectively what CA did) before dominating at grade level for at least a period of time and it comes as no surprise to me that he is now struggling
Worrall, on the other hand, has obviously had to work his arse off and that has translated into success at a higher level
That could work, just replace handscombe with an opener and put khawaja and smith in their proper positions.Warner
Khawaja
Smith
Handscomb

Marsh

There's no decent spin option so **** it, just bat deep.
Why would you pick Marsh if he's injured and not playing current Shield match and has done nothing to prove form since being dropped? Doesn't make sense to me. I also don't think Faulkner's done anything to prove he's test quality recently. Would steer clear of both of them.Warner

Plus he bowls some handy little seamers that should get him the nod over a batsman who can't bowl.Good to see Tassie promoting Bird up the order to show what he can he do with the bat.
Marsh hasn't shown he's improved his form as an all-rounder, but no one has questioned him in the side as a bowler. Why would you pick Marsh if he's injured and not playing current Shield match and has done nothing to prove form since being dropped? I feel only good can come out of these heavy losses.Stop papering over the cracks because we only lose away and a renewed focus on the Shield (hopefully).
