Hmm, well I probably shouldn't be buying players in my current financial state, but I couldn't help myself, picked up this Kiwi for 76k. The transfer market seems friendlier at odd hours of the morning:

Code:
Martin Challis (113694)
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, feeble form, Healthy
A defensive player with abysmal leadership skills and feeble experience.

Plays For:	Asterix XI
Nationality:	New Zealand
Age: 27 Years Old
Battrick Rating:	4,124
Wages:	£905 p/w

Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: respectable Concentration: feeble
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: feeble
Only real trouble is his age, but I've seen no evidence of skill drops as yet, and there are a number of players over 30yo, so I think he'll be fine for a couple of seasons as a 27yo. His stamina is low, but he'll be batting lowish as well. Not that I really need the extra batting, I just want him to bolster the middle order. He'll probably replace Rocastle at 6, meaning I don't have to play any competent specialist batsmen anymore. Only less-than-respectables in the top 8 will be Gillete (competent/proficient WK batsman) and Malik (mediocre/competent allrounder). My top 8 will be: quality, competent, strong, proficient, respectable, respectable, respectable, mediocre, followed by the bowlers. Should be stable enough until my 17yo proficient YP batsman arrives... 8-)

Anyway, made 327-5 in my friendly today, against a pretty ordinary team. Cuss (106 off 114) and Gillete (121 off 122) both made centuries for the second match in a row (though Gillete was at 3 this time), and Malik was promoted up to no. 4 to hit a quick 51 off 34.

Hmm, bowled them out for 80 to win by 247, solid effort. Gillespie took four wickets, two each to Badley, Pollock and Malik.

Wow.

That is just Wow. If you put a lot of training into him he could probably get respectable bowling :O

Wonderful death bowler, concentrates remarkably, and proficent batting, along with strong keeping.

Someone's bid 900K for him.

I wouldn't - he can only use two primaries at a time, so his bowling might as well be useless. He's only really got half a season of training left anyway, so I doubt he'd get more than one more primary skill pop. I'd rather fork out 600-700k for, say a 17yo proficient/feeble allrounder; he'd end up being miles better than that.

Yep. That keeper isn't that exceptional anyway, if you trained a 17yo medium bat medium keeping from the start of a season in just keeping and batting (just 1 session in each) they'd end up being at least as good as that guy going for 900K.

Nice, a guy won by one vote for the England elections, are you both national manager and Asterix XI manager or just national manager then?

As for my training updates I had 3 pops, which is about average. 2 in concentration and 1 in wicket-keeping. My 17yo wicket-keeper has gone from this:

6. David Armstrong - 17 yo, BT Rating=4,393
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, (unknown) form, Healthy
A cautious player with worthless leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: abysmal Wicket Keeping: feeble
Batting: feeble Concentration: competent
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: feeble
Fielding: mediocre

To this:

6. David Armstrong - 17 yo, BT Rating=8,071
RH Batsman, RH Spin Bowler, superb form, Healthy
A cautious player with worthless leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: woeful Wicket Keeping: mediocre
Batting: mediocre Concentration: proficient
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: feeble
Fielding: mediocre

in 11 training sessions.

By the way where would people bat him in relation to competent/woeful batsmen in much worse and similar form?

Both at the moment (though my club team will probably crash and burn now), the national manager role is just a 16-week tenure. No idea when the games actually start though, so I'll assume it's next week...need to get a squad together quickly.

I've found that high concentration batsmen tend to respond to aggresive orders much better, so someone like that would be useful to have around in the last 10 overs IMO. He'd probably do better than the competent/woeful in most circumstances regardless of form (although he's probably low-mediocre, so if your competent is near respectable there would be a palpable difference), so wouldn't be wasted up the order either, depends what your other bats are like.

It's just been changed - it's now got me winning 22 to 16, so evidently the votes were trebled for some reason. I thought a 50% voter turnout seemed a bit unrealistic...

Rubbish training update - just the one pop in conc for a bowling trainee who can't bat, so virtually useless. A few BTR rises including one of 837 for Cuss, whose form is heading upwards again after a sharp drop (to mediocre). The good news though is that my fitness finally went back up to 'fair' after being at low for weeks and weeks. Should have some effect on my ratings hopefully.

Bought this guy for 18K last night :

Agnelo Dilhan (121340)
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, respectable form, Healthy
A cautious player with mediocre leadership skills and worthless experience.

Plays For: Jamees 999ers
Nationality: Sri Lanka
Age: 20 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 2,550

Nice addition.

Not really gonna be a star player, but will be good to play at this level.
