Looks like a pretty decent start, 77-1 after 14 with your gun batsman well set. My next opponent (division 2 in England) just won their first league game... their seam bowling and opening batting popped to competent so I think they're probably favourites now, my opening batting is competent but I have slightly weaker middle order and seam bowling - they did have at least one spin bowler tho, they don't usually do much on my green pitch (unless they're high level).
Yep, very happy with the start. We were struggling at one stage, crawling along at 3.5 an over, then losing Bridge, but Cuss is making light work of it at the moment. Just brought up his half-ton at better than a run a ball, and Berry (2nd-best bat) has made a comfortable start.

Their most economical bowler (career ER 2.90) just bowled his ten overs straight through, 10-1-48-0 - very pleased about that. Their best bowler average-wise (9.66) currently has 4-0-24-0, things looking good for me so far.

made 311 and bowled them out for 220 :) with 3 overs spare
Lucky that, they could've got the other 92 runs in those three overs... :p

Berry out stumped. Gillespie in now, made 124* off 83 a couple of weeks ago, but he's just as likely to throw his wicket away cheaply. (EDIT: and does - bowled for 8.) Still got a respectable and three competents to come though. 131-2 after 23 with Cuss going strong on 75* off 74.

Bah, so much for promoting Begg up the order, a glorious duck.

Ton up for Cuss, absolute freak (in a good way). 186-4 after 38, Cuss 104* off 112 and Barrett crawling along with 18* off 44. 300 is a bridge too far I think, but 270-280 would be nice.

To reiterate what I posted in the BT forum:

Cuss has hit his last boundary for the day.

49.6 4 Knight to Cuss
You beauty, he has timed the pants off that delivery.

266-6 in the end, not as much as I would have liked, but considering the opposition I'm quite happy with it. Obviously a big effort needed by my bowlers to win this match though. Cuss was outstanding once again, 140* off 143, over half the team's total. A lot of supporting contributions throughout, but no one else managed more than 30. Makes Cuss' effort even more commendable.

Knight (2-44) and Carden (2-43) were the best of Banagher Knight's bowlers, though Whitehouse was the most economical with 0-40.

Quite happy with the way my batting orders worked out - I had the top order on attacking/v attacking orders, but I suspected that we might suffer a collapse, so set Barrett to normal to act as an anchor in case that happened - and of course it did. I've got no idea when it comes to bowling orders though...

Gillespie knocks over their best batsman for 12, 24-1.

EDIT: Another one for Gillespie - Smyth out for 8, 37-2 after 8 overs. Gillespie was this season's leading wicket-taker in WI before this match, hopefully he'll retain that position after it.

Handy win, that, puts me four points clear at #1. Eventually restricted them to 224-10 after making 266-6 to record a 42-run win. Gillespie was of course the best of the bowlers with 4-29, Street bowled well in his third match for 2-51, Male kept it tight with 1-28 off ten overs, and Berry and Oddy picked up a wicket each. Happy with Male in particular - he's a proficient bowler but he hasn't been doing too well until the last two matches in which I set him on 'very defensive' - picked up 3-38 and 1-28 as a result.

Cuss is now the leading runscorer in the league with 411 runs, and Gillespie the leading wicket-taker with 20. If I'm not mistaken, Gillespie is also the leading wicket-taker in WI this season with 33 in 7 matches- pretty impressive considering more than half those matches have been against div II sides. I managed my best reporter's summary ratings ever:

Code:
[B]Reporter's Summary[/B]
  	        [B]Asterix XI Banagher Knight[/B]
Top Order: superb strong
Middle Order: competent competent
Lower Order: feeble mediocre
Seam Bowling: respectable strong
Spin Bowling: useless useless
Fielding: mediocre competent
Not surprising since I played on GFI and had relatively good morale/fitness. I'm pretty sure my opponent played on GFI as well (his next cup match is against a bot) judging by those ratings, so very happy with the win. Also managed to sell out my 17,500-capacity ground on the first match since the expansion - raked in the not-insignificant sum of £128,625 in gate receipts.

Next cup match is against a side similar to mine - strong top order/average bowling, good chance that I will lose though, since my fitness is shot after that GFI. Best hope is for my batsmen to cash in on their relatively weak attack and rack up 300-350 batting first.

Made changes to my team for this week:
In: Nile, Jospeh, Phillips

Out: Beard, Longrigg, Sykes

At 27, Beard will probably never play again. Longrigg has been in terrible form as of late and Sykes hasn't fired yet which is pretty disappointing since i payed around 70k for him.
Youngster Nile comes in, I have great expectations for him - made a run-a-ball 39 in his first game 2 weeks ago. I also have great hopes for Phillips whilst Joseph is more of a spare-parts player.

I'll post my updated squad aswell(with batting and bowling order for this week):

That was against a bot team team though, who are set on abysmal form and generally easy to beat. Plus you've lost two games against bots...

Dude, everyone flogs bots - it's not hard. Look at your match ratings:

londonderry izards
Top Order: competent
Middle Order: woeful
Lower Order: worthless
Seam Bowling: feeble
Spin Bowling: mediocre
Fielding: mediocre

That's not too bad for a new team, but it's not so good that you'd 'whoop all our butts'. I don't mean to be arrogant, but compare that to my ratings (post #787) and tell me who you think would win. Anyone who's already played a season would flog you - Samuel Vimes, Ash chaulk, Kwek etc. Scaly Piscine would flog you as well, and he's still in his first season.

A lot of youngsters, which means net sessions get a bit messy

Haha sorry Andy, forgot to mention you. ;)

I'm really hoping I can get a decent batsman from my academy very soon, as I want to sell one of my batsmen and save up to buy a good bowler. Thinking of selling Begg - bought him for 14k last season as a competent 19yo bat, he's now a respectable 20yo. He has abysmal concentration and stamina though, so he's not really any better than most competents. I think he'll fetch a decent price because of the respectable batting skill, might list him for 150k or so. All depends on whether I get a youth pull anytime soon, or if I can find a real bargain on the transfer market.

Batting order reshuffle for the cup match - top four stays the same (Gillespie though... grr), but 5/6/7/8 play musical chairs. I've had Begg at 5 for the last two games - didn't work out, probably going to put my 'keeper Gillete at five. He's competent/mediocre/mediocre (batting/conc/stamina) so is probably more suited to the role. Rocastle (competent/competent/abysmal) set to v. aggressive at no. 6, and Begg and Barrett interchangeable at 7 and 8.

Argh. I just checked the pitch I'm playing on (away) - last time it was set to 'slow', now it's changed to 'flat'. In fact it was slow in my opponent's league match yesterday - quite surprised it's changed so fast, hopefully not a bug. My batting strategy above was based on a slow pitch, might have to rethink it now. Most likely I'll drop one of the batsmen (Begg or Barrett) and bring in an extra bowler instead of having allrounder Berry as my fifth bowler, as he's generally expensive. No idea who to bring in though - Badley's the best of the reserves (respectable bowling) but he's been rubbish this season (and last).

Yea, all much of a muchness there, although your bowling should be fairly solid on a green pitch but any gun bat or gun bowler would be a dead cert to rip your team apart. Trouble is you've not much bowling potential there, all seems to be all-rounder or batting. I dunno what adam thinks but I'd give some extra training to this guy:

Ron Sutton - 18 yo, BT Rating=3,524
RH Batsman, RM Bowler, strong form, Healthy
A steady player with proficient leadership skills and worthless experience.
Stamina: feeble Wicket Keeping: worthless
Batting: competent Concentration: feeble
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: woeful

If you get him up to respectable/competent or respectable/mediocre batting he'd probably average 80+, which would be a big help with your batting lineup.

Adamc

Cricketer Of The Year
Yep, I'd definitely give him plenty of training. If he were in my team I'd give him two batting sessions and one stamina session for a while (possibly fielding too if I wanted really good secondaries), but that's only because I've got absolutely no batting trainees (17yo mediocre is the only remote prospect - other batting sessions are going to 20/21yo's).

You've got a lot of young players so you probably want to spread training around a bit more, but I'd definitely give him two batting coaches anyway (if you're not already). Obviously you don't want to train one guy at the expense of the rest of the team, but in my experience it's very handy to develop one batsman into a very good player - see my last league match as an example (Cuss 140* where none of my other batsmen passed 30, in case I haven't mentioned it ;)). My bowling is similar with Gillespie spearheading the attack, but it's a little different as he can't be involved for the entire innings, unlike a batsman.

If, say, you had a team full of competent batsmen, and came up against a team full of proficient bowlers, you'd probably get mauled - but if you had one or two strong batsmen you might still post a good score.
