U19 Vice-Captain
Training aside, I'd say it's been a most satisfactory week in the 'Gurs' dressingroom. No danger of me being ousted by player power as has happened to my counterpart in the Wales rugby squad!
The hunt has finally ended for a tidy spinner who can bat a bit, getting my man for a smidgen over £70k - To take my total transfer spending for the week to £190k, ten grand less than I'd budgeted for, and eased somewhat by the £50k for which I managed to offload Oli. Mind you, my bank balance is now a rather anaemic £146k, but that should be rectified with two home games in three weeks and a few more players to chuck on the market.
So ladies and gents, can you please put your hands together and give a warm welcome to Robyn Atherton-Ham!

Most concerningly of all I was under the impression that Robyn with a "y" was a girl's name? but also, he like Patel, needs urgent attention paying to his stamina, you Aussie's are an unfit bunch aren't you! But all the same I'm confident that he'll add something to the team. He's not a particularly high Resp but at 19 he still probably has a season or so useful training in him. And besides, my fourth bowler is currently Crick, a 29yo mid Comp medium pacer who does a job with an economy of 3.8ish but not all that many wickets to his name, and my best, not to mention only, spinner isByron, a 24yo high Med with Abs Stam, who takes lots of wickets but gets carted for at least five an over every time he plays. Plus Robyn does have the added advantage of Feeb batting, which will be a big boost at No.8, and he could possibly even do an emergency job at No.7, on a hard and fast pitch when we need the extra bowling. Taking on board what Scaly said about Mullins last week, I'll give Atherton-Ham his batting and bowling net as soon as Mullins pops to Resp Bat, and I'll also stick him on a Stam net. Hopefully in a season or so he could become a kind'a Ashley Giles style almost all-rounder, with say Resp Stam, high med/low Comp batting and high Prof/low Strong bowling. I know Nibs said that there was no point in buying players just because they're represent good value for money, but when you're working on a small budget I don't see that I have much other choice.
Won my league match on TIE against a new team on Friday. I had wanted to bat first and have a bit of a runfest to help out my RR, but my opponents were in league with my Mrs, who wanted to go out for her birthday on Friday afternoon, so they won the toss, elected to bat, and the whole shebang was over by half one! Bowled them out for 108 in 38.4 overs, Burke returned to some kind'a form, with 7/0/18/2, Edworthy as always was as reliable as crap TV on Christmas Day, with 9/2/27/3, Bewers was once again on fire, and could have shortened proceedings even further had I not f**ked up my default bowling instructions, making him B2 instead of B1, thus denying him another two overs. But even so he managed to take 2/11 off 5. Crick did a job with 10/1/29/1, and then there was that man Mullins, who once again confounded the best Battrick brains to weigh in with another Herculean return of 7.4/2/13/2. I'm increasingly convinced that there is some kind'a bug in the Battrick server, that Mullins bowling has been mixed up with someone much better, and one horrible day someone is going to realise the mistake and transform him back into the dibbley-dobbley low Med medium pacer he ought to be from his stats. But seriously, I guess he is living proof of the importance of Cons, as I can only conclude that his Prof Cons must be at the root of his relative success with the ball. Guess that's why they're changing the wage structure next season to take account of secondaries.
I'm TIEing again on Friday, as I'm going to get my a*se roundly tanned by our runaway league-leaders, who in their last match returned summary ratings of Qual/Resp/Abs - Prof/Prof/Comp. I want to take at least a fitness boost out of a match I'd stand no chance of winning even on GFI, but I've had to take measures to try and prevent the kind'a trashing which would undo all the good work of the 4.5NRR boost I gained on Friday. So I've figured that I'll take Scaly's advice and switch my pitch to hard and fast. Then I thought I'd try and bat first, and reduce all my batsmen and bowlers' aggression by a level, except Atherton-Ham who I'll set to V.Defensive in the hope that he can learn something from the best traditions of negative British spinners and block up an end by firing it in quick and flat! - If anyone else has any damage limitation ideas they'd be gratefully received!
Only two training pops, Bewers to Med fielding and Mullins to Prof Cons. And a pretty pointless YP with Woe Stam and Feeb bowling but nowt much else - he's got one spin on the transfer market then he's off to fry burgers in Mackey D's. I'll have 40 ITS in the bag next week so hoping for something good. BTW, my academy is Prof, at what age, if any, could I use all 40 on one YP?
