They're going to have to do something about the ratings, England and Australia are managing elite ratings easily on TIE in both their national and U19 teams, so come WC time they will be hitting elite everything, apart from lower order and fielding.
I guess the problem is that it's the same step between each rating.

If it became an exponential climb that would make more sense.

when i got knocked out of the cup my side had a top order rating of quality, despite the fact i have no quality batsmen, let alone surperb. i don't really understand tbh

It's just that team morale and fitness can add several extra levels to the ratings. I managed quality/quality bowling ratings despite having no bowlers above strong. One of the teams in my league managed masterful top order despite having no one above superb. It doesn't really matter that much at the moment, but in a couple of seasons the reporter's summary will be useless at international level and for some teams at club level.

Only one in my price range is. Should i wait for some better batsmen to come onto the market or get this guy?
I'd wait for something better. I got a superb/mediocre/mediocre batsman for 642k (after selling a strong/woeful/feeble for 625k) and older strong batsmen regularly go for 300-400k, so if you wait long enough you're bound to pick up someone cheaper.

Let me know if you still need someone by whenever your deadline is, I'm in another cup but I can get out of it easily enough as it hasn't yet started.

And yeah, the WI v England match was a bit of a bowler's nightmare, 405 plays 323 on a flat pitch (sunny). The WI destructive bowlers struggled, though the best of them (1-64!) was also destructive, but even guys set to v. defensive were being carted around. The best figures on either side belonged to England's Alex Wilkinson (6-67) who is probably the best bowler in the game.

They're going to have to do something about the ratings, England and Australia are managing elite ratings easily on TIE in both their national and U19 teams, so come WC time they will be hitting elite everything, apart from lower order and fielding.
oh no interest shown from the number one man

I would've signed up if it was mentioned a few days earlier, as I had already joined another cup by time it was mentioned. But as I said if no one else fills the last spot I'll be happy to take it. I'll probably rest Cuss from most friendlies so I wouldn't be number one anyway.

Steven Sweeney (404445)
Battrick Rating: 9,444
Wages: £1,027 p/w
Stamina: mediocre Wicket Keeping: abysmal
Batting: woeful Concentration: competent
Bowling: proficient Consistency: mediocre
Fielding: feeble

At the start of the season Sweeney was a very high respectable bowler. His batting, if trained, I think may have a little potential as his secondaries have developed alright. I could train him up to competent, or maybe just maybe, respectable in a couple of seasons time. Any idea what level of woeful batting he might have? And btw, I was giving it some thought earlier. In round 5 of the cup I faced up to State Shield (New Zealand's top league) opposition. Every batsmen except for Jason Duggan failed to reach double figures, which makes me wonder if my side has aspirations to reach the top league some day, will my middle order be effectively usuful useless when faced with the best bowling attacks in NZ. My point is that even if I bothered training Sweeney in batting would it effectively be a waste of time that if he reaches the level of respectable, would he still be pretty crappy against the best bowling attacks???

There's no way of telling what sublevel of woeful batting he might have unless you know their batting training history. Anyway the concentration isn't high enough to really to warrant training them in batting. The much mentioned Lawrence McCloud has near elite concentration with woeful batting and has only just recently started to score significant runs (they average 17.42 over their career, 29.25 this season).

I think that's pretty much correct. I've found that my competent/respectable players are already pretty ordinary against Div I sides. By the end of next season I think most Div I teams will be full of strong+ players, so anything less then that will be regarded as sub-par.

yup, I expect next season, if I get promoted to division II, that although my top 3 batsmen will be able to hold their own up there, I'm not sure if too many other batsmen will fair as well. Likewise with my bowling attack, some bowlers shouldn't find it too difficult while others are setting themselves up for a tough time. I just need to get some stamina into certain players before its too late

Lost my game today, although I was quite surprised to get so many runs

Magical Ponies 9/237
Drench 79 (99), Sutton 71 (95), Kenna 29 (50), Birchall 17 (26).. no one else in double figures

Bicmaia 1/238 (34.4)
Moore 147 (103), Kamara 78* (110)
Chillingworth 1/55 (7.4), Giles 0/20 (5), Drench 0/41 (7)

Magical Ponies bicmaia
Top Order: mediocre superb
Middle Order: feeble mediocre
Lower Order: abysmal abysmal
Seam Bowling: feeble competent
Spin Bowling: mediocre proficient
Fielding: woeful mediocre

MOTM: Orourke

Was a bit of a second XI, and my fitness and morale is very low, and I knew I had no chance of winning so I'll happily take that performance. Sutton and Drench had been runless all season, so it's good to see them make some. I normally open with Sutton, and he makes 20-40 usually, so maybe I should put him in the middle order.

Had a 10-wicket win today over a bot. Got my best rating so far, TIE aswell, I'll have energetic fitness by the time I get to GFI the now-inactive team that beat me at the start of the season (I MUST win to get promoted, and the more the merrier).

Robertinho Select XI
Top Order: respectable
Middle Order: mediocre
Lower Order: worthless
Seam Bowling: competent
Spin Bowling: proficient
Fielding: mediocre

How many levels would a GFI add to that? Could I get strong/respectable top/middle order and proficient/superb bowling? Or does it only add one level?

Regardless, I will blow this guy out of the water.
