Why does cricket need a strong West Indies?

I don't think cricket needs a strong West Indies. It'd be cool if they were strong though. Expanding on that a bit, it's good for cricket if all the teams are competitive to a degree and as such, the Windies being as weak as they are right now doesn't make for good cricket....but I don't think...

Thorpe backs Pietersen as ODI captain

Haha, originally read that as "porn mates".

A 'whooosh' wouldn't go astray here.

    The greatest match you've attended

I hate you. The closest match I've been to would be this match. Not that many close matches here...

    Funny sub-continent player names

The intention behind this thread was ****ed up, but it didn't turn out to be so bad.

    Cricket Q&A

Nah, decent idea for a thread imo. I'm sure people sometimes have queries about rules etc and a thread like this could prove useful.

    At what exact date...

Yeah, if he retired on the date Fiery posted he'd probably be considered among the top three greatest ever. For mine, he's already up in the top rung anyway. At any rate, I think after he retires he'll be rated higher....when people forget the less impressive latter part of his career and...

    **Official** India in Bangladesh

    No.

    **Official** India in Bangladesh

No problems. Checking further, there have been 10 instances of a batsmen getting a king pair in Test cricket (Wikipedia article).

    **Official** India in Bangladesh

Jaffer was out third ball in the 2nd innings, so it was a pair but not a king pair.

    **Official** India in Bangladesh

I know Gilchrist was out for a king pair in 2001 against India in Kolkata, but he obviously wasn't opening.

Personally (and I've changed my view of this from the past), I reckon you'd be hard pressed to find any player in international cricket who would pursue their own personal goals ahead of what's best for the team. I don't know what was going through his mind while he was approaching his hundred...

Haha yeah, although you put the point across a bit better than I did.

    **Official** India in Bangladesh

...but that's not what the article is about. IF the article was indeed criticising Tendulkar for his prolonged period of poor performance, then that would be fine. However, this article focused solely on his innings' versus Bangladesh in this series and such harsh criticism of these two knocks...

    **Official** India in Bangladesh

So what? It's still not as if he didn't make any runs at all. He made 122* ffs. Why criticise him now? I know what you're getting at, and I'll clarify it now (although I think I implied this anyway) - I don't think 'Tendulkar is back' because of a couple of innings against Bangladesh. I just...

    **Official** India in Bangladesh

Have to disagree with that part in particular. Dravid failed in South Africa while Tendulkar didn't play in the West Indies. In that Test India lost at home against England, everyone failed. Anyway, my issue isn't with the content of the article so much...there are some valid criticisms although...

    **Official** India in Bangladesh

Yeah, agreed, strange article to come out with now. It really pisses me off when people go on about scoring rate in Tests...it's rarely an issue, and India's best batsman of the last few years has traditionally scored slowly. I don't know why Cricinfo'd come out with an article criticising...
