    Pecking order for Australian quicks?

Starc is worse than these guys at the moment but, based on his last test, I wouldn't say he is a huge step down. Also might be underestimating the ability of someone like Cutting to step up. His average in shield cricket this year is a lot better than any of the bowlers mentioned above.

    Pecking order for Australian quicks?

Sadly, Hazlewood has really been set back by injury. He was just getting his pace back to 140+ and then he got injured again. Another bowler with enormous potential if he can get over the injuries, though.

    Pecking order for Australian quicks?

I thought he looked the best bowler in the first innings of that test match as well, even though he did not get the results. He also bowled well in the shield final, from all reports which was the last first-class game before that. I guess time will show.

    Pecking order for Australian quicks?

So you don't think Cummins was the leader of the attack in the test match he played?

    Pecking order for Australian quicks?

Cummins would be first picked for me if fit. He performed against the SA side, not these crap NZ and Indian sides. And in that test, he looked a far better bowler than Siddle. It was only one test but there were signs of greatness there that I have not seen in the other bowlers (maybe...

I believe you are talking about the pre-Cowan era there.

Spinners have this need to invent names for deliveries, fast bowlers just describe what the ball does. Feelings of inadequacy perhaps?

What is with the constant checking for no-balls?

Happy he did not get it here. It's a bit of a empty statistic but if he is going to get it, I want him to get it in a match that matters. Not in a dead match on a road like this.

    Ireland unveil Test cricket vision

I have never understood why you would exclude a country from playing test cricket. The only thing you have to get rid of is this stupid requirement that every team play every other test team. Then if Ireland and Afghanistan can organise a test between them, why not. I can't see it having...

    ***Official*** India in Australia 2011/12

The question was which would make a better go of the switch, though. You have to hit the ball a lot less often in baseball to be a success. I think it would be easier to go from cricket to baseball than from baseball to cricket.

Wickets and hundreds celebrations: today vs yesterday

Most batsmen can still contain themselves on reaching 50. I will reserve judgement until I see him get a hundred. It is probably a reflection of the change in culture. It wasn't that long ago that the Waughs were playing and you were lucky to get an arm raise out of them on taking a wicket...

    Any gamblers on here?

It could be argued that it encourages match-fixing. Don't really see an issue as long as you are betting with a reputable agency.

That is only a problem if you have a terrible captain who gets rid of all the slips.

We need more meaningful stats-Ed Cowan

It might help if you make an actual argument as to why it is valuable. I am prepared to change my mind if anyone can demonstrate sufficiently that this sort of statistical analysis of players will make a difference. Just saying "no" doesn't add anything to the debate.

We need more meaningful stats-Ed Cowan

Just because every team uses it does not mean that it is useful. It could just be a fad picked up because the team that used it seemed to have some success. You can look at the Oakland Athletics record in 2002 and it does not seem significantly different from the few years before it. You can...

We need more meaningful stats-Ed Cowan

I suspect that whatever statistics they come up with will not be much more meaningful that averages. It may be that you can't use statistics to judge a player exept in the broadest sense (ie batsman who averages 55 is better than one who averages 40). Players can change so much from season to...
