Mark Taylor was one guy who was a wonderful slip fielder as well as a great captain. What I really should have asked is if people consider captaincy or slip catching to be a skill as hightly regarded as batting or bowling.
I personally think that captaincy sometimes is over rated, but a great batsman who is equally great in the slip cordon is so much more valuable to his respective team, and if I had to pick between two failly equal batsmen, the one who can upgrade my slip cordon would get my nod. Similarly with bowlers who can bat a bit, not all rounders per say, but capable and sufficiently skilled, might gain favour with all other factors being equal though as the primary skill in this regard would still be the determining factor.
No, you can make decisions from anywhere on the field. But there's only one fielder in any given position.Mark Taylor was one guy who was a wonderful slip fielder as well as a great captain.
Being a good captain will add much more value to the side because there is only one captain. There are 10 other fielders who can compensate for you.
Fix'dPonting seems to fit the bill for three disciplines.
Great bat
Great fielder
Part of a great team
You can change the fielding position of the fielder but you can't change the decision makerNo, you can make decisions from anywhere on the field. But there's only one fielder in any given position.
Yes you can. You let another guy give the orders. You can change the fielding position of the fielder but you can't change the decision maker
That is only a problem if you have a terrible captain who gets rid of all the slips. The only problem with Mark Taylor was he couldent field anywhere else.
No need to, first slip is a designated position just as Wicket keepingThe only problem with Mark Taylor was he couldent field anywhere else.
