Where will Steve Smith end up being ranked?

Is this the thread where I told @TheJediBrah Smith would average less than 30 as an opener, he did exactly that but TJB never acknowledged it?

OK sweet, so who comes in? For who?

    **Official** 1st Test @ Perth, 22nd-26th November

Yep, absolutely - my point was originally around someone who said Bumrah shouldn't bowl tomorrow if the game is in the bag. Which I wholeheartedly disagree with, unless he personally feels like he should. He knows his body better than most. I have no issue with 'workload management' of any...

    150, 372, 162, 179, 196, 193, 311, 120, 188, 115, 313, 264, 237, 89, 271 So far as I can see, those are the totals Australia has bowled teams out for in 2024. The 487-6 is the obvious aberration. Looks OK to me.

    **Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

Nah, there isn't. I think batting is the biggest reason for this, and probably always has been. Australia's top order is feeble but on its day on a flat one can go big. India's is the same, plus they go to water when it does a bit. Our top order is actually OK, which is producing decent results...

This is outrageous. He didn't make runs in the first innings. It won't go on the podium as the greatest hundred in history but downplaying its merits is pretty ridiculous, I reckon. Lot of kneejerking in this thread. The Australian quicks are the best in the business, and got dominated...once...

This is essentially my point. Listening to Bing Lee on that podcast, and stories about how it seems coaching structures are using a one-size-all fit to the management of fast bowlers, both at junior and senior level, I find that problematic. It's almost lazy. Some people, like you say, get fit...

But the premise of your example would say that they wouldn't be around if they weren't handled with delicacy? Plenty of guys were bowling at 33-34 in previous eras.

    **Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

The approach was always going to be a pendulum that swung towards success and had the potential to veer too far back the other way into demise as the tunnel vision around its efficacy took hold. Now it's up to them to adjust the method, and there's enough nous in that setup to ensure it will...

Part of what makes him great is that he wants the ball at all times. Good luck getting it off him when there's a maiden 10-for at stake. So I guess the answer is he gives a crap, and he is your talisman, so you let him rip in until the job is done. I listened to Brett Lee on a podcast...

Warner is 100% the sort of guy who would revel in Australia losing once he's gone

Well **** me, I'm not used to Australia being that dire. Almost feeling a weird sense of pity

I don't know how modern management setups see night watchmen...maybe they want someone with decent technique who can tee off the next day if they survive?

There's no way Cummins is night watchman if Marnus insists he doesn't want one. Unless it's some ridiculous management edict.

He shouldn't be asking for one full stop. His job is to bat 3 for Australia. Asking a guy to do that job who bats 8-9 against the best pace bowler in the world is ridiculous

Protecting Marnus 🤣 That's like putting a security guard in charge of the box I put the outdoor furniture pillows in overnight

Having listened to the guy commentating now for 3 days, I reckon they should bring him back

I think this is bigger than it would be getting anyone else to a ton, I guess is the other context. Kohli getting to a ton feels like it means a lot in the wider context, and they're going to win either way
