    **Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

Understatement, at best. There was never anything that suggested he'd offer anything at Test level, even if he got drawn to play golf with Stokes on Monday. That's what I don't like about modern cricket. Jacob Bethall didnt earn test cricket and certainly not batting 3, which was borne out in...

    **Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

He's got some tools - tall guy, mixes his pace up, and started to group them a lot better as the day went on. Blundell and Smith both failed to get over theirs with the extra height, Henry got spooked by the new ball around the corner and Rachin...well that was just awful. That's where we lost...

    **Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

Was thinking that yesterday...if he was a spinner, who averaged 55+ away from home (ie a subcontinent spinner) you wouldn't think for a second about playing him. OK, Hagley, where it can do a bit, but honestly it's Woakes who shouldn't have a passport, not Ollie Robinson. I'd have security at...

As for who is ahead, pretty hard to say... I'd probably say I'd rather be England, not sure this pitch will fall apart at all. We're not getting much more than 350 with a new ball unless Tim does rare Tim things and GP goes nuts, and I'm sure they'll back themselves to get a 100-odd run lead...

    **Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

I don't agree with the first paragraph but wholeheartedly do with the 2nd. Phillips is clearly a better batsman than Blundell now and probably always will be. So he needs to bat above him, to maximise his output. Fairly simple. Mind you, I do also agree we gifted wickets and a bog average...

Part of saving Test cricket is surely bowling more than 20 overs on the brink of lunch?

So Latham. Look a million bucks, find one of 569 ways to get out. Such a poor place to try and hit that ball, which didn't appreciably move from its initial line

So the dearth of quality batting options in Australia, what is it put down to? End of a generation and not a lot of talent being exposed during this time? Coaching? Decrease in the quality of the Shield?

Derek ruined his game early on by trying to bat conservatively - he modelled his game on Todd Astle (when he was an opener) bizarrely enough. As an U19 batter he was devastating. Toured the US on a T20 tour but never played, and just never quite did enough. Should have been ahead of Kruger...

    2024–25 NZ domestic season

To clarify, I don't necessarily have an issue with Robinson getting an opportunity. But gee, there are a fair few guys coming through now with records like Robinson, Allen, JFM, Bethell etc who have records where they're averaging 20 odd in all formats, might have one century to their name...

Yep, that's my point. She said she was going to spit on that thang once. JFM's version of spitting on that thang was his 100 for SA

    2024–25 NZ domestic season

Yeah, all fair points. I know the landscape has changed and I'm not necessarily bemoaning that. It has to be remembered, though, that there is still a place for people like Michael Bracewell, Grant Elliott back a while back, even Nathan Smith is about to debut as a 26-year-old. We didn't know...

    **Official** England in New Zealand 28 Nov-18 Dec 2024 - 3 Tests

Yep, fair point. We say that, but he probably won't. I don't know the guy but really weird that a guy who averages 25 at an SR of 48, doesn't bat top 4 as you say and hasn't scored a FC hundred, is about to bat 3 for England and probably try to smash. Speaks to my boring old laboured point...

No.3 is such a vital position in Test cricket, it's almost galling to see that treated with disdain by picking a debutant there that clearly doesn't have the game to make it work. However, on balance, if you don't want your best batsman there because you think his best run output is at 4, Pope...

    2024–25 NZ domestic season

Was picked for the Dubai league a couple of seasons ago, alongside Ollie White, for some bizarre reason. Let's see him do it for a couple of seasons against decent opposition (I know you were being facetious). Tim Robinson is another example of someone being picked too quick for a flash in...

Fair point. Rachin is another example. Should never have been playing T20 and got originally drafted off the back of mainly batting 7 and bowling the odd over in T20Is. Kyle Jamieson was another example, potentially, although at least he'd exhibited beast mode for a season...but not in that...

That's the sort of thing that should get your CV thrown in the shredder, not $1.6m

Yeah you're right, there definitely is (averaged 36 with a 200+ strike rate in his first season). He's just such a junkyard dog player. I've never liked watching a player less. He plays like Peter Ingram if Pinger was facing free hit no balls every delivery
