    Virender Sehwag vs Alastair Cook

Overrated Test spam Dad's money type player is Alistair Cook. Sehwag was a destroyer and won games. Should be pretty straightforward.

Is Boycott closer to Kallis or Sehwag?

Nah, I think they're same tier. Gavaskar above both, as a Test batsman only.

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Allan Donald

Donald >>> Ashwin certainly is a very 90s > everything take. But yeah, haven't followed closely enough to see if Lyon > Ashwin is a big crux of this argument. If so, he's completely lost me here.

Is Boycott closer to Kallis or Sehwag?

    Too far, even for me.

    Advancement in bat technology

Was thinking you might be going that way. From Wikipedia: Player Review statistics An analysis of more than 2,100 Player Reviews between September 2009 and March 2017 found that:[64][65] 26% of Player Reviews resulted in on-field decisions being overturned. Reviews by batsmen were less...

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Allan Donald

I tend to think subs has big blind spots and some rose tinted glasses for certain players/eras. But I don't see "Indiaphobic" as being the huge undercurrent of his worldview. More like 90s > everything else.

    Advancement in bat technology

I don't know about lot easier as it's just removing error not really changing much of rules, but batsmen are more successful in DRS challenges than bowlers, which seems a bit strange but whatever. I feel like a certain amount of "benefit of doubt favoring batsmen", is still inherent in the rules...

    Advancement in bat technology

This **** is obvious for those not blinded by the fallacy of "all things equal". Bouncer rules, bat size, even introduction of sight screen. Every single major piece of technology in the game ( even more cameras on the field that help sniff out ball tampering ), favors the batting side at the...

    Advancement in bat technology

Bowler skill, is of course always increasing at a faster rate than batsmen skill. The technology of bats has always been improving, since the early years of Test cricket, as well as rules changes almost always favoring batsmen. Yes, James Anderson circa 2020 knows more about bowling and is a...

Is Boycott closer to Kallis or Sehwag?

    Boycott overrated as a player.

    All time ODI XI discussion

Makes it as a batsman alone, for mine. Also, you need 6 (at least competent) bowlers in ODIs, for mine.
  13. shortpitched713

    Shaun Pollock vs Ravichandran Ashwin

Pollock also a better batsman in this one. Have to go with him.

    Where's Andrew Symonds?

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Allan Donald

    Those people are morons.

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Allan Donald

So for how long is he going to have to keep performing this consistently for you to change your opinion? Does any given wicket taking milestone change that? Unrelated to that, how do you rate him as a batsman?
  17. shortpitched713

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Allan Donald

I rate Ashwin really highly as a bowler, very close to Donald in that respect to begin with, so with batting I think that gives Ashwin the edge in a close one over Donald.
  18. shortpitched713

    Ravindra Jadeja vs Ian Botham

A lot of times this just ends up being a stamina and team resources question for the star all-rounder in consideration. If a bowler gets a fivefer and is knackered he's often likely to bat down from his usual position. Similar if he hit a marathon century in the previous innings, lowering his...

    Geoffrey Boycott vs Graeme Smith

He's the only one out of the slow batsmen who has verifiable peer evidence of being perceived as selfish from multiple sources. The rest of even the slowest batsmen have generally favorable peer assessments as being good teammates. And this is exactly the sort of thing where peer assessment...

    VVS Laxman vs Adam Gilchrist

Gilchrist is very underrated on this forum. Despite some weaknesses, he was a genuine match-winning batsman down the order.
