    Javed Miandad vs Everton Weekes

My favorite Pakistani batsman, vs one of my favorite ATGs. I have to go Weekes.

    Ravichandran Ashwin vs Ian Botham

No idea, honestly. In primary skillet of bowling (which tends to be many's default for these kind of comparisons) Ashwin is a street ahead of Botham.

Rank these 5 Test openers in order ( Boycott, Greenidge, Hayden, Sehwag, G Smith )

While certainly quick for his time, we simply don't have dequately reliable measurements from his era to really compare.

Rank these 5 Test openers in order ( Boycott, Greenidge, Hayden, Sehwag, G Smith )

It's not the same speed and accuracy of a Garner and Holding coming at your chest and face.

Rank these 5 Test openers in order ( Boycott, Greenidge, Hayden, Sehwag, G Smith )

Generally I would agree, but it's not just the tactics it's also the bowlers which you have to consider. Larwood and Voce were not the same sauce as later bowlers who had a preference for short pitched bowling tactics. In addition, the bad publicity from this one bodyline series I believe...

    Kumble vs Lyon

I will say those summary stats are incredibly misleading and devoid of context. I'd like to see WPM, and the averages during the eras in question which will give more of a lead to Kumble, imho.

The playing out from the back thread

The counter argument to playing out the back is that if your keeper hoofs it long, the opposition might do a smart control, and hit a half volley from about the center circle that will hilariously bounce over your keeper... so better to try and pass it around the back???

Rank these 5 Test openers in order ( Boycott, Greenidge, Hayden, Sehwag, G Smith )

I think the short pitched bowling was by far the greater of the two. He was a bit of a bully and a hypocrite on that front too, as he benefited from the furor against bodyline for most of the rest of his career, but when he had exceptional pace bowling talent available for his own team towards...

Rank these 5 Test openers in order ( Boycott, Greenidge, Hayden, Sehwag, G Smith )

If he even averages 65-70 he's still inconceivably far ahead of Tendulkar/Viv etc. The gap in averages in that case is also greater between him and the next tier as compared to the next tier and a tier lower. And that's not even considering the fact that most people don't have any level of...

    Kane Williamson vs Inzamam-ul-Haq

Kane by a mile. Maybe a clutch batting only comparison might be closer?
  11. shortpitched713

    Jacques Kallis vs Neil Harvey

They're both in the Hayden/Tendulkar tier.

    Chris Gayle vs Sanath Jayasuriya

Jayasuria is an ODI ATG, CMV.

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

The stated reason, that Karachi can't hold a Test as planned due to renovation, doesn't hold water. Because there are more than 3 Test caliber stadia locations in the country.

    *OFFICIAL* England in Pakistan 2024

Why are there 2 tests in Multan?

What is the most difficult cricket shot to successfully pull off?

They should be the backbone of a good batsman's technique. Are you on the shorter side, by any chance?

    Kane Williamson vs Javed Miandad

Both these guys also highly underrated on CW. Both at least as good as Ponting, but don't get as much credit due to not being on a super team.

best team in world cricket right now

Crazy, in 2016 people were seriously putting forward Pakistan as best in the world. How times have changed.

    Younis vs Chanderpaul

Chanderpaul would easily make a CW underrated XI, for mine.
  19. shortpitched713

    Younis vs Chanderpaul

Another wash. Both very useful batsmen for variably inconsistent teams. I'll go Chanders because I'm sure that others will push Younis ahead, but I think their actual records are very, very comparable.

Pietersen or Gilchrist as a test batsman?

Complete wash. Both very destructive batsmen. Gilchrist had better positions and opportunities, but I also think he turned a few more matches for wins than Pietersen. Would love to have both on a team during the 2000s.
