Hobbs is just Hutton with more of an attacking dominant game. Why is he worse than Hobbs?

I am not comfortable ranking any 1900s cricketer ahead of modern day great like Sachin or Smith but hey that’s just my opinionHobbs is currently leading 33-31 against Sachin.
ok.I am not comfortable ranking any 1900s cricketer ahead of modern day great like Sachin or Smith but hey that’s just my opinion
He's just making something up to get mad about again. There is barely any consensus on CW on who the second best batsman after Bradman is, much less people thinking Tendulkar is in his own tier ahead of other candidates. Hobbs/Sobers usually beat him on polls/lists of batsmen here too IIRC (which is fair imo). How many portray Tendulkar that way on CW? Don't make a false presentation.
I don't think he is ever or rarely presented as having no competition with Hobbs and Sobers or even Viv.
I am fine with doing that but not as far as best behind Bradman.I am not comfortable ranking any 1900s cricketer ahead of modern day great like Sachin or Smith but hey that’s just my opinion
And that's fair imo. But completely cutting them out of the picture is a bit unjust (and disrespectful) imo.I am fine with doing that but not as far as best behind Bradman.
To Johan's credit, he convinced me that Hobbs must have been a beast with the bat in ways that suggest he could have transcended the limitations of his era. But that lingering doubt of not being able to see his gameplay means I cant put him near top of the tree. And that's fair imo. @subshakerz If Hutton didn't have a severe compound fracture during the Second World War, which made him lose his attacking game against short pitched pace, then I reckon he'd be the Best after Bradman, he has the most flawless record of all ATGs with a deformity.Hobbs is just Hutton with more of an attacking dominant game.
I think having an attacking game is a prerequisite to be in the top tier. So Hutton, even as opener, is slightly outside that.@subshakerz If Hutton didn't have a severe compound fracture during the Second World War, which made him lose his attacking game against short pitched pace, then I reckon he'd be the Best after Bradman, he has the most flawless record of all ATGs with a deformity.
Fair. I rate him at 3 behind Bradman and Sachin, which I think is reasonable. I could go either way on him vs Sachin tho.To Johan's credit, he convinced me that Hobbs must have been a beast with the bat in ways that suggest he could have transcended the limitations of his era. I understand the concern but no need to be ageist.I have Hobbs & Hutton/Gavaskar in ATG side but I am not always comfortable with having a player who debuted in 1900s in my team.
Hobbs is the most dominant batsman compared to his peers outside of Bradman but I rate Sachin betterFair. I rate him at 3 behind Bradman and Sachin, which I think is reasonable. I could go either way on him vs Sachin tho.
Same here.I rate him at 3 behind Bradman and Sachin, which I think is reasonable.
I think Hutton did have an attacking game but only lacking it against short pitched pace bowling because he can't hook the ball well anymore as his left hand afaik was terrible for all his life, It's fine imo, everyone has a slight technical flaw.I think having an attacking game is a prerequisite to be in the top tier. So Hutton, even as opener, is slightly outside that.
tbf you rate Gavaskar higher as well.Hobbs is the most dominant batsman compared to his peers outside of Bradman but I rate Sachin better
Sachin to me is the nearest to a complete bat in all ways (technique, record, etc.) we will be ever privileged to see.Hobbs is the most dominant batsman compared to his peers outside of Bradman but I rate Sachin better
Yeah I also rate Viv>Sobers, guess I'll wait for Smith to finish before I decide Smith vs Hutton, but he might already be ahead of Lara for me.Same here.
I've also decide to go Viv ahead of Sobers recently, and Smith ahead of Lara and Hutton.
Hutton and Smith is a true tossup, but Lara is slightly behind both and Huttons record is just clearly superior to Lara.Yeah I also rate Viv>Sobers, guess I'll wait for Smith to finish before I decide Smith vs Hutton, but he might already be ahead of Lara for me.
