Hammond the third best Test batsman of all time for mine.
Third is a bit high, but taking that as it is.

The 3rd best bat ever, the greatest slip ever and an underrated and more than useful 5th bowling option.

I assume he's a top 3 cricketer of all time for you, possibly even higher?

And that's a bit of an understatement.
One of my favorite cricketers though.

He batted at 3, not hiding as the modern no. 4's have been doing. He fielded at 1st (during the time when it was the more / most valuable position), excelling at both, and even though he hated bowling he was pretty effective at that as well.

One of the most valuable cricketers of all time.

Can't make my first team because you can't have an all time team with only 3 countries, but he's a lock for the 2nd.

Yeah, as I've said, I have Gavaskar, Hammond and Chappell rated practically equally and who is ahead depends on the day.
Hammond over Chappel for me, Sunny vs Hammond is the split I struggle with, it just seems like Sunny was more skilled of the two, Hammond had the X factor and was more dominant.

I think Hammond is one of the cases who'd be rated higher if he played today, the way everyone talks of him makes me feel there was something more about him than just the numbers.
