Hashim Amla at 46.64 the next great batsman Kohli is targeting. Guy is breezing past these milestones with ease.
With Kohli now on 47.21 you forgot a few batsmen before Amla that could soon be his peers

Bill Lawry (47.15), Bob Simpson (46.81), Peter May (46.77) and Clive Lloyd (46.67)

iirc people may have suggested the same about KP.
Yeah KP had similar issues but there was always the thought from the beginning that he was unprofessional in his approach.

But Kohlis main thing was mental focus and ambition. He had a lot of pride. He buckled down after failing in England in 2014 to deliver the goods with real precision in 2018.

He had a slump but it looked like he broke the spell last year. But he hasn't upped his game. He is better than this mediocrity.

I never thought that tbh. People were raving about him being back and looking like he was gonna improve but I never saw any actual sign of that.

The WC 2023 and the SA tour after, he seemed to be in high gear with his aggressive instincts back. But this year he has been completely flat.

IMO Pietersen was never the same after losing the England captaincy, but it went into a bit of a tailspin in his last year, when he did his knee in. Didn't seem to really recover from it.

He still had a couple of years left in him. Was made a scapegoat.
I found the ralllying around of Alastair Cook utterly befuddling at the time. He had failed miserably in two series with the bat against admittedly high class bowling, but was also ridiculously anodyne with his tactics (along with Andy Flower). Even more ridiculously Peter Moores got given the coaching role for a year, another reason why Pietersen was persona non grata, along with Strauss being the Director of the England team.

It was a failure of management if you can't handle a talent like KP and would rather put him in the chopping block. He wasn't even England worst bat in the series.

depends on your definition of unprofessional. is being a **** bloke and not the best teammate unprofessional? probably. but KP by all accounts was a beast of a trainer, worked on his game obsessively and always prepared well.

Yeah he was unprofessional with teammates. But that's the managements headache to solve. KP was their best bat by miles.

I am still not able to understand how he was able to perform in the 2022 T20 WC & 2023 ODI WC during his bad form.
WC 2023 he was especially in the zone in a way I have never seen before. How the heck does he go from that to just playing loose drives innings after innings in Australia?
