Yeah KP had similar issues but there was always the thought from the beginning that he was unprofessional in his approach.

But Kohlis main thing was mental focus and ambition. He had a lot of pride. He buckled down after failing in England in 2014 to deliver the goods with real precision in 2018.

He had a slump but it looked like he broke the spell last year. But he hasn't upped his game. He is better than this mediocrity.
Really pissed as Kohli. What a waste of elite abilities to end up in the 40s. I thought this guy had more pride to push his record forward. Feel completely let down by his approach.
I don't think as hominem attacks are necessary - the guy has achieved a lot for India over a long period but for whatever reason has just declined dramatically in test cricket. I doubt this is work disrespect to the game or his team. Maybe he'll hang up the gloves after this tour, especially if India are ruled out of the WTC final. However, I wonder if there are commercial reasons to keep him in the test side to maintain its profile.

Saying all that, mediocrity might be too positive a description of his recent form - he's scored single figures or worse in 9 of his last 16 innings.

@capt_Luffy is Smith considered a better Cricketer than Kohli in your country now?
Tough to say really, if it is it's probably due to Kohli hate not Smith love. Don't think he is particularly rated that highly, will lose to Ponting here (Smith that is). Now, another thing to consider is that they tend to rate as Tests and ODIs+T20s as equal, and if you do so, Smith isn't better than Kohli.

I saw an article the other day that suggested that Tendulkar still makes a shed load of money from advertising stuff in a way that current players don't. Surely Kohli can cut his playing losses and still make a tidy little earner? He can still play IPL, and it alone would cover the yearly cost of his Mayfair pad?

Has there ever been a more prolonged fall from greatness than Kohli?

God like and talked of as being up there with Sachin and now ridiculed as being like Crawley. The only ones I can think of are Botham and Waqar and Botham hardly played in the last few years as he was usually injured anyway. Waqar was a sad case going from express pace, fearsome and averaging 20ish to almost medium pace and nothing like his old self.

The Shastri comment about 3/4 more years is laughable. Stick.a fork in him, he's done.

India play ten tests next year; he may give himself one more year to nudge his average back to 50. If he fails, surely he'll retire by the year's end, possibly as early as the two West Indies tests in October.

Might also retire from ODIs after the Asia Cup, though who knows.

Its not Virat making money that is the issue. Its the BCCI and ICC and other boards and the various networks that carry the cricket. They apparently need Virat to play to earn like so much more.

It doesn't make sense. Enough sentient Indian cricket fans, never mind the rest of us, see that he is done. Why do they think it is so important that he keeps playing, given the obvious impact it is having on your team's performance.

To be fair, he was showing signs of turning things around in 2023 and he hardly played any tests in the first part of the year. Its only the past 9 tests and he has a 100 in one of those. Looked good in the first innings at Melbourne too before he courted disaster with his running. I think the most reasonable time to drop him is now and I can understand him playing till now.
