Is this the end for Kohli at Test level? I mean with his batting record over the last 5 years being the below, how long can they continue to carry him? Surely this poor tour of Australia is one tour too many for him & he needs to step aside.

Yeah he should retire but likely will stay until the England tour as an albatross.

Someone please explain me :
Teams have worked out that Kohli doesn’t play Cut shot , so they are bowling on 5th-6th stump , and he is falling into the trap repeatedly because he is always on front foot .
So , how was he able to score on these balls during his peak of 2016-19 ?

I was like 13-16 so not the best judge but as I remember his drive was just stronger and he
nicked fewer balls. Have vague memories of him getting out like this in England 2014 as well.

He played the same exact shots, he was just significantly faster and better in reaction then today, and also a lot more confident in his stroke making, his reflexes and physicals were so good it fixed an obviously technical issue of overdependence of drives.

now, with age and mental pressure he seems to have aged 10 years in 5 years, and thus the sams shot that brought him thousands of runs has become a liability.

He hadn't faced KJ. Jamieson basically worked out Kohli's kryptonite and others copied.

Falling to wider bouncy outswing always been there to an extent. His first English tour was bad, and his first NZ tour was assisted somewhat by a game is dead ton, but at his peak he was just better than his flaws and had some great series in SA particularly. Talent grants temporary grace over flaws.

You are correct. Here is peak Kohli in 2018 ball by ball against Anderson, mostly outside off. No cuts, mostly the same shots, but the percentage of errors against high quality bowling is just less. Now he is 36 years old and clearly has slipped his game. If he faced the same spell today would be out in three overs.

Didn't Kohli also have a good England tour where he was just ridiculously lucky? I seem to remember him repeatedly getting drop catched or his repeated knicks just happening to miss fielders.
Please check the video yourself.

Thanks for the video. Very interesting.

I'm not sure if his technique and reflexes are massively "better" in that video, or if simply was due some good fortune. I counted about 4 "drops" that in another game may have carried and been taken, and about three play-and-misses that he was lucky to not knick.
In those conditions only three plays and misses and a few near misses is an outstanding return.

imo play and misses should count towards the batsman. They’re just showing impeccable judgement whilst also giving the crowd and the hapless fielding side some excitement. Its really sporting of them.

He definitely had a ton of good fortune. Some of those drops were absolute dollies too iirc. I still think that counts as one of the best series anyone has had in England but it wasn't necessarily good evidence that he had figured out English conditions.

Honestly Gavaskar said it recently that this flaw in his technique is baked in the cake at this point. But he made a point of saying that the extra bounce in Australia is what is causing these dismissals again and again which may not apply to England as much.

The movement is enough to get him...... I ****ing can't believe we are taking him to England still.
