South Africa Domestic Season 2024/25

I saw Herschelle Gibbs commenting on the fact that someone said imagine facing a 150kph bowler whilst at school but he said he faced at least 4 of them 😂
I saw it but Hersch failed to mention he faced them in provincial games as he was playing at 16.

Aaaah should have clicked that's what meant.

Wonder who he would have been on about? Donald, Bosch, Schultz? Not sure who else would have been able to touch 150. Snell and Jack were quick but not that quick.

How much speed do guys that quick typically put on after leaving school? They might not necessarily be bowling 150km/h at 17/18, but it's still got to be up there.
Yeah, I would imagine so. Bowling fast is a pretty unique skill set. A lot of it is natural and then honed around 16-19 & then maybe those initial years in the professional game of are you more than just fast but have ability with it.

It was such an abnormal week that there are quite a few highly rated players missing out on SA Schools and SA Colts selection.

Only Steve Stolk (SA20), Kashief Joseph & Tim Short (16 year-old spinner) from the 24 above aren't going to Cubs Week (early Jan) for SA U19 selection v England.

JJ Basson, Waco Bassick injured also missing out.

Front-line batters (some can bowl), seamer ARs, spinners then seamers.

As the 4 day comp takes a break the relegation & promotion races are very tight.

In Div one warriors are bottom but only one point seperates them & dolphins.

In Div 2 KZN inland tuskers & northern Cape heat are tied at the top. Eastern Storm also still in it.

Any idea how this points system works when combining the formats? Tell you what, there might be a big causality in relegation.

Hasn't kicked on as much as hoped. Kept picking up little injuries that has stifled his progression & sometimes as he builds momentum he has to sit out when Bedders/Verreynne are back but at his best he is Graeme Smith-like. So dominant and imposing at the crease. Jono Bird. Hoping for a big 2025 from him.

SA U19 squads are picked after the final games today at Cubs Week. Always exciting to see the next batch of talent coming through.

SA U19 squads chosen. 20 players for both squads.

5 players in the ODI squad not eligible for 2026 U19 CWC in Namibia/Zimbabwe

At this stage would say
Hansen > Hockly
Mason > Short
De Villiers > Bassick
Daniels > Basson
Mokoena > Majola
Would be the 5 in & 5 out for the WC. Short more a reliable and quality spinner but if they wanted an impact batsman and leggie then Free State have Daniel Hattingh & FG Botha.

Ross Coetzee was batsman of KMCW and missed out. I would still watch him.

Beni Hansen is captain of both squads.
