Quinnie was even thinking of going to USA I believe. Another baseball player was Lee Irvine.

Could that region be somewhere where there's more emphasis on hockey? It's certainly not as big a hotbed for rugby as other parts of the country are.

Quite possibly although whilst they are quite passionate about rugby just like the English-speaking schools in CT, it's just that the Afrikaans-speaking are just historically superior

I noticed SACS are number one hockey school in SA at the moment. The top Cape Town schools have got a few of the successful Langa township boys who seem to have taken to hockey which is nice to see.

Piedt has been disappointing, although it is not uncommon in his career that people go after him.

Athar, as usual, yammering on about shot selection and "choosing the right ball to hit", claiming it was impetuous batting that cost us a lot of wickets. No, it was mostly piss poor technique from substandard batsman. With a few bad shots as garnish.

The problem is Peidt isn't actually good enough at international level. Particularly not against subcontinent batsmen. He is a decent FC spinner, but not going to threatening in general at international level.

As I stated earlier in the thread, he is a big step down from Harmer. He bowls some wicket taking deliveries but its what he produces inbetween that is the problem.

The problem is that our batting has been so poor that Conrad has felt the need to shore it up by having Mulder at No.8 recently, even in this test we found ourselves at 108/6, had we not had Mulder at no.8 would have probably been bowled out for 150 and then we'd be in big trouble. We don't have another quick in because our specialist batsmen have constantly let us down , there is no confidence to go in with 5 proper bowling options because we can collapse to anyone.

Agreed. It's just that if you go in with four bowlers and two spinners, both of your spinners need to be dependable. Unfortunately Piedt hasn't shown that sort of control.
