Russell Endean but that's going way back to the 50's ..We obviously have such a passion for rugby in this country and had a few dual ones like Roy McLean, Eddie Barlow, Peter Kirsten, Herschelle Gibbs that stand out. AB, Kallis & Boucher also had a strong rugby passion.
In terms of hockey? Who are our guys?
Trevor Madsen, Jonty Rhodes & now Tristan Stubbs & Kyle Verreynne? Benkenstein & Tsolekile too.
Indeed. I knew there were more hockey guys.Russell Endean but that's going way back to the 50's ..
Mandy Yachad was quite a good hockey player though only played once for SA , AB De Villiers and Reeza Hendricks played some hockey at high school ..Phehlukwayo was very talented at hockey ..
You pick up things in these stick , bat and raquet sports that can be used in cricket.
I heard Quinton De Kock growing up wanted to be a baseball player.
Quite possibly although whilst they are quite passionate about rugby just like the English-speaking schools in CT, it's just that the Afrikaans-speaking are just historically superiorCould that region be somewhere where there's more emphasis on hockey? It's certainly not as big a hotbed for rugby as other parts of the country are.
Well I see someone has undermined my good idea and put the *Official* tag in the title anyway. Such is the lot of the guy who has the best ideas in the room.Thanking you, Squiddo.
I purposely omitted the ***Official*** tag in the title as I imagine it might actually be easier to spot the thread without it.
Piedt has been disappointing, although it is not uncommon in his career that people go after him. This is where you want Nortje or Coetzee to bring some high pace.
The problem is Peidt isn't actually good enough at international level. Particularly not against subcontinent batsmen. He is a decent FC spinner, but not going to threatening in general at international level.Piedt has been disappointing, although it is not uncommon in his career that people go after him.
As I stated earlier in the thread, he is a big step down from Harmer. He bowls some wicket taking deliveries but its what he produces inbetween that is the problem. The problem is Peidt isn't actually good enough at international level. The problem is that our batting has been so poor that Conrad has felt the need to shore it up by having Mulder at No.8 recently, even in this test we found ourselves at 108/6, had we not had Mulder at no.8 would have probably been bowled out for 150 and then we'd be in big trouble. We don't have another quick in because our specialist batsmen have constantly let us down , there is no confidence to go in with 5 proper bowling options because we can collapse to anyone. This is where you want Nortje or Coetzee to bring some high pace.
Agreed. It's just that if you go in with four bowlers and two spinners, both of your spinners need to be dependable. Unfortunately Piedt hasn't shown that sort of control. The problem is that our batting has been so poor that Conrad has felt the need to shore it up by having Mulder at No.8 recently, even in this test we found ourselves at 108/6, had we not had Mulder at no.8 would have probably been bowled out for 150 and then we'd be in big trouble.
