Really close finish in the men's 800m, another one for the glut of close finishes we've had
Well, if one's got to run the 3rd? fastest 800m of all time one might as well do it in the finals of the Olympics. Emmanuel Wanyonyi's got the makings of a great. If you paused after the first 75m along the final straight you'd be convinced the Kenyan guy gets pipped, but somehow he held on.
Good finish between the hurdler and the 200m runner.Really close to the world record there in the 4 x 400m
A good bronze for team GB
Yep, frustratingUS 4x400m women's team just miss out on sending one of those suspicious 1980s records to the bin.
Might mean sharing the prize money too. I'm glad they decided to keep jumping. No sharing the high jump gold this time. Find it odd that you'd not take the option of a shared gold
Maybe, apparently athletics at this games are the first sport whose world body is awarding price money to the tune of $50k per gold medal winner. Not sure that's a deciderMight mean sharing the prize money too. I'm glad they decided to keep jumping.
$50k is probably a massive sum of money for most athletes at the games.Maybe, apparently athletics at this games are the first sport whose world body is awarding price money to the tune of $50k per gold medal winner. Not sure that's a decider
Was it the first leg though? Kinda meaningless otherwiseApparently Matt Hudson-Smith ran the 2nd fastest leg in a 4 x 400m relay of all time there for Team GB. If only he could have done that in the individual event!
I think it only ended up being the 4th fastest split time in the end. But I meant more in the sense that if he'd have been able to run the 2nd (or even 4th) fastest individual 400m time in history, then he'd have won the individual event! Was it the first leg though? Kinda meaningless otherwise
Reminds me of Barney in HIMYM about marathons.
The Aussie girl broke the world 2000m record just before the Olympics*Women's 1500 insanely fast. Somehow Aussie and GB take the minor medals behind Kipyegon
