Obviously you'd be delighted winning Olympic gold, but she looks so happy as well, you love to see it

Duplantis arguably the current greatest athlete… not even sure it’s much of an argument. League of his own.

Good shout

Maybe Ryan Crouser in the men's shot put? Triple olympic gold medallist and has 5 of the biggest 6 throws in history

Gold to Australia makes it legitimate.
I believe women's foil fencing, men's four rowing, and men's skeet shooting are the most legitimate Olympic events. Think we should just count up the golds from these most perfect and representative events and anoint the nation with the most the winner for this Olympics.

Thank goodness for Betty Chebet. She has had a great year, and it's great to see her get an Olympic gold.

Haha **** he did it again. Just keeps getting better. And he’s still only 25!

Bubka set his best jumps at 29-30, LaVillenie’s best came around 27-28 (his 6.16 was 8cm higher than any other of his)

I reckon he could maybe even grab 6.30

Duplantis currently: has 10/11 jumps above Bubka’s 6.15, including the top 9.

Its funny, growing up, all the field event records seemed untouchable, but we’re finally seeing people getting close and even breaking some of them. Unfortunately Vetter got injured so Zelezny will carry on for the forseeable future. But Pole Vault, Shot Put and now even Discus have all been broken… Long Jump and High Jump still look quite safe but already this year someone jumped within 11cm of the record. Its really good to see.

In the light of Hodgkinson's win, worth remembering that the Women's 800m is still the longest standing World Record going back to Kratochvilova in 1983. A 'late' developer, she was 32 when she set those records and had developed a somewhat muscular physique. I'm still not sure it will ever get beaten. Also noticed the 400m is from 1987 (Koch) and still looks pretty safe too, although Flo Jo's 200m ('88) is starting to look more under threat.

It's surprising really that a line hasn't been struck through all women's records in the 80's.

I think it's amazing, given all the advances particularly on the track, that the long jump World and Olympic records are 33 and 56 years old respectively.

I get that Beaman's record was essentially done without gravity, but it seems like an anomaly that nobody has really come close.

Haha I was literally just thinking about how suspicious Flo Jo's 1988 records and her entire career are.
