The thing that sways my opinion about GG is what Ashwin spoke about him. Ash is not someone who will praise that easily. Hopefully this is the best era for Indian cricket yet and we win double the ICC trophies as we have right now in this stint, including the one missing.

haha.. but knnowing Ash, he wont have said that for that reason. Remember how effusive he was in his praise for Bewda after the BG trophy in 2020/21? This after Bewda publicly said Kuldeep is the #1 spinner in 2018 in Aus.

The Zim series seems to be an absolute waste as we are not identifying anyone to fill the gaps in our main team and instead playing with 8 batsmen, 4 openers, a #3 keeper batting at 5 and a #4 batting at 6.

Rohit and Dravid did a remarkable job of freeing up the players to play their respective roles. I don't know if it can be bettered.

Gambhir appears to be very Gambhir about certain cricketing things. It seems that he has a point to prove or something. It's probably good as it means he is actually going to strive hard for success one way or another. It might turn out to be just like his batting, not exactly pretty but effective. Let's see.


With Dravid-

• India lost 2-1 in South Africa when it seemed we would win. Huge missed opportunity to register 1st series win in SA.
• India lost the 5th Test in England, which cost us a big series win on English soil.
• India then lost the WTC Final

So in Test Cricket, I do think that Dravid led management has been a failure away from home.

In fact Dravid was quite lucky that India survived against Eng at home this year, when he kept stubbornly persisting with the likes of Patidar and even rested Bumrah for the critical 4th test which India almost lost.

Dravid's/management's stubbornness at times was detrimental to the side. Even in the T20 World Cup he refused to deal with Dube. Persisted with slow poke Kohli as an opener. So you can't say he has been totally awesome just because India got the job done this time in the shortest format.

I am hoping Gambhir is more in the Shastri mould, that he can fire up the boys to achieve more success away from home!
