Adorable Asshole
International Regular
That's an exaggeration. Anyway he was better at playing ATG pacers like Mcgrath than SachinBut can't play pace. That is a deal breaker for top tier.

He did have the benefit of not having to play against those who made the era so tough, tbf (which is a valid argument btw).Like what?
Richards played in a much tougher era than Sobers or half of Tendulkar's career, mind.
They may have played more, but Viv has a favourable record against Imran, Lilee, Hadlee and many ATVG’s like Kapil, Willis, Botham, Wadir, young Akram, Indian quartet. Gavaskar may dominated as many, but not Lara and Sachin.Hmm? Source? Lara, Sachin, Gavaskar and few others did more. He never played against the best bowling attacks of his time.
Averaged 70 with a 70 SR in his peak against peak Lillee, Thomson, Imran, , Botham, Willis and the spin quartetHmm? Source? Lara, Sachin, Gavaskar and few others did more. He never played against the best bowling attacks of his time.
QuartetAnd for the spin thing, Viv properly dominated the Indian quarter(who took a good amount of wickets) in WI, and Qadir in Pak and home. Heck, he has one of the best 4th innings knocks in SC
He still dominated the other great pacers in series where he was the difference between the two sides. You can't overstate the impact Viv had blunting bowlers on a hot streak. Nobody else did that.He did have the benefit of not having to play against those who made the era so tough, tbf (which is a valid argument btw).
No. He had higher highs but was also owned by McGrath in an entire series in 96. Tendulkar never got owned by McGrath in a series. That's an exaggeration. Anyway he was better at playing ATG pacers like Mcgrath than Sachin
He clearly struggled against Donalds pace.Lara has great numbers against Murali and Warne, decent against Mcgrath, but not that great against anyone else
As does LaraViv belongs there.
Didn't Lillee dismissed Richards like 9 times? I would hardly called it owning.Averaged 70 with a 70 SR in his peak against peak Lillee, Thomson, Imran, , Botham, Willis and the spin quartet
And Richard averaged 48 against him(50 if you count WSC)@ an SR of 70+. Richard averaged nearly a half century per innings. I wouldn’t care beyond this how many ever times Viv got dismissed by him, if he averages nearly 50@ SR of 70+ that too on tough Aus pitches against himDidn't Lillee dismissed Richards like 9 times? I would hardly called it owning.
A lot of that was also outside his peak. The period we are talking about is 76 to 80/81. He faced Lillee in 75 and 81/82 also.Didn't Lillee dismissed Richards like 9 times? I would hardly called it owning.
And Lara averages 46.4 against Mcgrath but according to @subshakerz Mcgrath owned him.And Richard averaged 48 against him(50 if you count WSC)@ an SR of 70+. McGrath owned him in the 96 series specifically by dismissing him cheaply 5 times in a row. But I also said Lara has his highs against him too.And Lara averages 46.4 against Mcgrath but according to @subshakerz Mcgrath owned him.
Tendulkar had an amazing career start for me.Yeah don’t really wanna derail this further with my thoughts on Viv tbh.
We all know I rate him lower than most people here and its not gonna change.
Anyway Sobers just shades it for me, both started as teens and had relatively (to the rest of their careers) mediocre starts. Both were widely successful against multiple opponents and in a variety of conditions. Both awesome players.
