Hmm? Source? Lara, Sachin, Gavaskar and few others did more. He never played against the best bowling attacks of his time.
They may have played more, but Viv has a favourable record against Imran, Lilee, Hadlee and many ATVG’s like Kapil, Willis, Botham, Wadir, young Akram, Indian quartet. Gavaskar may dominated as many, but not Lara and Sachin.

Sachin doesn’t have a dominating record against Donald, Pollock, Mcgrath, Akram/Younis. Played very less of Ambrose, that too in his later years, and only really dominated Steyn and Warne, and to some extent Murali.

And for the spin thing, Viv properly dominated the Indian quarter(who took a good amount of wickets) in WI, and Qadir in Pak and home. Heck, he has one of the best 4th innings knocks in SC

He did have the benefit of not having to play against those who made the era so tough, tbf (which is a valid argument btw).
He still dominated the other great pacers in series where he was the difference between the two sides. You can't overstate the impact Viv had blunting bowlers on a hot streak. Nobody else did that.

Didn't Lillee dismissed Richards like 9 times? I would hardly called it owning.
And Richard averaged 48 against him(50 if you count WSC)@ an SR of 70+. Richard averaged nearly a half century per innings. I wouldn’t care beyond this how many ever times Viv got dismissed by him, if he averages nearly 50@ SR of 70+ that too on tough Aus pitches against him

Yeah don’t really wanna derail this further with my thoughts on Viv tbh.

We all know I rate him lower than most people here and its not gonna change.

Anyway Sobers just shades it for me, both started as teens and had relatively (to the rest of their careers) mediocre starts. Both were widely successful against multiple opponents and in a variety of conditions. Both awesome players.

Tendulkar had an amazing career start for me.
