Hopefully Boards and international sides can get away from the idea that a coach needs to be a 'high profile' ex player. I know Ronald McDonald played for Australia, but isn't a 'big name' in terms of public perception. The 'big names' ie Langer, Kirsten, Flower, maybe even your Shastris etc seem to bring a knowledge but also baggage in terms of personality and influence outside the group. It might appease the public to have a big name, but that doesn't guarantee success.

Some of the most successful coaches, ie Woolmer, Hesson, Buchanan (argue the toss but he coached the most successful Test era of all time), Fletcher etc didn't need to have played a lot of international cricket to be successful. Other point being, the big name coaches - Ponting, Fleming, McCullum, Steyn, Lara, Donald, Jayawardene - are gravitating to the IPL and don't want to be on the road for 10 months a year.
Definitely been a trend in the AFL over the years that successful coaches haven’t been superstar players. Sheedy, Malthouse, Hardwick, Clarkson, Thompson, Worsfold and pagan were all decent footballers but more workmanlike than superstar.

The thing I like most about Pat is how much he has triggered the uneducated rabble with his thoughts on climate change. The comments on the CA Facebook page underneath the video of his press conference are hilarious.

Been sacked,

We need to change the thread title to "Should Langer have been D R O P P E D as Australian coach?"

The answer's still 'Yes', by the way.

Whatever it takes!!!
I reckon it'll go down spectacularly well in the dressing room. Sticking up for you when you're being criticised is one of the most powerfully endearing things anyone can do.

This is definitely true but in this case, I think most of the criticism has been at him, and there has not been any names thrown around even as rumors from that senior group, as far as I have been able to follow. So, its not quite the same thing but definitely something his team will like him for. Same happened with Virat when Kumble was the India coach.

Yeah Cummins is the one who's been singled out, but I think there's been a lot of attacks on them as a group. Snowflakes who just want to be coddled etc.

Well no, mateship within an actual sports team is necessary (in most cases). Not the same at all as old farts who arent in the team sticking up for their pal who everyone with a brain knows hasnt done a great job.

Good line and you suck.
He has no friends (pews) to understand

I made that clear in my last post which did not get enough likes

I've seen a lot of people going after Warner, Smith and Labuschagne for apparently bring leaders of an anti-Langer conspiracy. When you hear ex-players saying it was just a small group of senior players (which there's no evidence that it was, given that Paine and Finch were at the forefront of pushing Langer to the sidelines in the middle of last year) they mean them in particular.

I had not come across any of that. Fair enough if that was happening.

Imagine being Smith and Labu who literally breathe cricket and told that you need to bring more intensity and fire and passion.
