No need to downplay SA's feat that much just to make Langer look bad, he's doing a decent job on his own already.
They’ve released his email of resignation. In the circumstances it’s not that bad imo.

If this causes a wider look at CA governance (they somehow seemed to get away without much scrutiny after Cape Town) then it will be a good thing. The management of that organisation is laughably bad

CA definitely needs a shakeup. Shame it's not been dealt with properly.

Who'd you back after the interim period if McDonald isn't kept for good?

McDonald seems exceptional by all reports tbh. If not him then Dizzy I guess. I wouldn’t go Bayliss - I can’t say why, I just think the other two are better options

Mitchell Johnson has joined in the ex-player support of Langer and slammed Cunnins.

Just when you began to wonder who would be the new wave of ex-player turns tosspot in the media was going to be....in rides Mitch.

Again, why the hell would Cummins publicly endorse a coach he didn't believe was the best person to lead into the future? Since when it is a 'failure' to not want your coach to continue? Then it paints it as an 'agenda', and 'selfishness' and even to the point they've lost him and most of the public. Next stop, burning his blazer like the late great Martin Crowe said in the wake of what actually was a white-anting of Ross Taylor as NZ captain.

Amazing when Ian Chappell actually is the voice of reason on all this. I thought he spoke very intelligently about Cummins' role, the failures of CA, the ex-players being too close to Langer and feeding the frenzy etc. Not sure I agree with him about the lack of need for a coach, but he's spot on about the rest.

that horrible feeling when Lehmann is the ex-player that you feel comes out of it best :( :( :(

They could have tried to convince Langer that four years was enough, as previous coach Darren Lehmann attempted to do.

I think Bayliss would probably be politically impossible regardless now tbh; can you imagine how loud the "NSW conspiracy" calls from the ex-players would get in that case.
hahahah as soon as I finished writing the above I've seen that Conn slapped together a small-ish article on the subject

Loves a good pot-stirring does Malcolm

Lawson implied in his article that Bayliss may be unlikely to commit to the job. I suspect a white ball/red ball split would get him. He's got a cushy gig with all his T20 jobs anyway

this is one of things that I'd appreciate a deep dive on by someone. It's a no-brainer that they needs to be support staff (ie analysts, video coaches, line coaches) and so you need someone to oversee that, but sometimes I'm not quite sure what the difference between a "team manager" and "head coach", when "team manager" could be a position that oversees the support staff. "team manager" can also refer to the off-field logistics ofc (which in our case, seems to include get pissy at the social media guy....)

I definitely don't think cricket teams should be run by committee which is inevitably what you'd get if the coachless model is adopted. Not that Chappell is calling for that; he probably wants all the support staff gone and all power placed in the hands of the captain, as if they don't have enough on their plate already

So who were the players strongly wanted Langer to be moved? Can't wait for the autobiographies of some of these players to come out

Whatever it takes!!!
Are there actually regional beefs in the Australian national setup? Like state biases or something, it just seems so weird.
Mitch Johnson was writing for the West Australian. So at the very least, he is definitely playing to his likely audience and gallery there with this article.

But having seen him on social and regular media for a while now, I just think he is pretty insecure and salty. Basically Australia's Gambhir.

Basically everyone from Victoria is convinced that there's a NSW conspiracy when it comes to national selections. Meanwhile Western Australians (and to a lesser degree) Queenslanders are parochial as hell.

As someone from NSW I find it weird af too, but the lesser states clearly have a big chip on their shoulder.

Those Johnson comments on Cummins are something else. Don't recall even Michael Clarke getting such hostility from ex-players; probably have to go back to the Kim Hughes era (he was getting it from team mates as well publicly).
