I think the general public just assume that the Australian cricket coach is the equivalent of the coach in sports like AFL, NRL etc... and are baffled that someone who they presume has coached the equivalent of winning a premiership has been forced out.I had a post written like this the other day - the difference in viewpoint between the vitriol about it on facebook (ie media organisations: Fox, SEN etc) and posters on here is poles apart. I'm really intrigued by why that is, or moreso why Australian posters on here think that is? Because I don't think that would be a thing anywhere else in the world. It seems like your Joe average general public cricketer watcher in Australia is actually really uneducated about the game. Not sure why that it is.
To anyone who consistently follows the Australian cricket team, it's pretty clear Langer's reign was untenable and that the players cannot cope with his intensity anymore. I laugh at facebook posters saying that he should go to England and 'stick it in CA's face' because holy ****, Langer might actually lose an Ashes series 6-0 in charge of them.
It's probably a symbolism of the relative egalitarianism of the game here and FTA access. The equivalent of the casuals that think they should have an opinion on cricket in England for example basically would barely follow the game.It seems like your Joe average general public cricketer watcher in Australia is actually really uneducated about the game. Not sure why that it is.
Be funny to see how quickly Broad and Anderson go "**** you" and give up.Yeah Langer and this current English squad would be a remarkably awful cultural fit.
Not only ex-cricketers. There's more than a small number of current players.Really obvious how many ex-cricketers can't distinguish between their own personal interests and those of the team
I feel there's more than a small difference between the two situationsNot only ex-cricketers. There's more than a small number of current players.
Mark Taylor is the most disappointing one, given this doesn't seem that far away from Simpson being replaced with Taylor's former opening partner.Really obvious how many ex-cricketers can't distinguish between their own personal interests and those of the team
root would make a good dwight to langer's scottYeah Langer and this current English squad would be a remarkably awful cultural fit.
This is bang on. I guess from their perspective who cares - they're only showing solidarity to a mate and given they're aligned with the 'general' public, it's not registering as a stain on their reputation. It might in the eyes of those guys in the team, however.Really obvious how many ex-cricketers can't distinguish between their own personal interests and those of the team
There's more than a hint of this being pent-up backlash against Cummins from people who resent the fact that he's been public about supporting various social causes, talking about climate change etc etc. Dive into the sewers and you'll bring up a lot of people who have clearly been itching for an opportunity to go after him about these thingsThis is bang on. Langer: Ah, you must be Johny Bairstow. Aloha and welcome!root would make a good dwight to langer's scott
but i think bairstow/langer would be the most hilarious dynamic to follow
I chuckled at that one too. Hard to think of a name who would fit less well with that dressing room.Yeah Langer and this current English squad would be a remarkably awful cultural fit.
Bit harsh on langer here IMO. He made the hard calls to back marsh at 3 despite smith's record there and back wade the finisher despite the fact that pre-wc he had done nothing in that spot in his career. Those 2 calls played a massive part in us winning the wc, wade clutched the game vs SA and the Semi's, and marsh dominated the finals. In my opinion (reasonably unbiased I guess, because I'm not invested in their results) I'd reckon the right thing has happened. CA are an absolute bunch of incompetent pricks and should be massively worried about the leaks and lack of accountability in their organisation, but that shouldn't detract from the fact someone like McDonald, Bayliss or maybe Gillespie are better placed to take this team forward. The T20 World Cup was the fly in the ointment. If Matthew Wade doesn't have a ramp shot, Australia bow out in the semis and no one really minds that Langer is sacked.
Oh no that wasn't designed to be harsh on Langer and his influence on the tournament. That was more so saying that if Wade doesn't come off against Shaheen, Australia go out in the semis and the public don't really give much of a **** that Langer goes.Bit harsh on langer here IMO. Langer still needed to go though.
