This article makes it sound like many have been too harsh on him. I mean, its clear his style was not working out but maybe the vitriol should not be what it has been?
I went and read back the Sack Langer thread in the archives and it really wasn't like he was looking great then either.

Hilarious Geoff Lawson would see fit to comment. The bloke who sent abusive text messages to the wife of the bloke who succeeded him as NSW coach.

Most of the vitirol has come from his hypocritical supporters in the past two weeks.

CA didn't handle it well - they should have just openly said he was a bad fit and not offered him a contract instead of the cowardly nonsense that played out - but I don't think it was "harsh". It was just incompetent from a PR perspective.

Obviously Langer-for-England is insane, but it would be interesting to see how all his mates react.

This

CA had no intention of offering Langer a long contract so should have moved on some time ago rather than making a circus of the thing

Whatever it takes!!!

Last two weeks, yes. But I am talking about this even a few of the CW posters acting as if him and Paine were the reason for all of Australia's losses so far etc. Just not true.

Some of the reactions I have listened to & read today have been ridiculous

Must have missed the part where the coach became the most important person in Australian cricket or where the coach became the players’ boss

Imagine Shane Warne’s reaction to being told that John Buchanan was more important than him or that he was his boss:laughing:

John Buchanan made an interesting observation that perhaps a source of tension between Langer and the players last year was how several players (including Cummins) pulled out of international T20 tours but were available for the IPL.

Stuff like payment differences over the Amazon doco get the headlines but I reckon resentment festering between those who skipped the tours and someone like Langer with his famed mindset on representing Australia was probably pivotal to tensions reaching boiling point and a meeting needed to be held to clear the air.

Langer is such a one eyed patriot i wouldn't be surprised if he refused the english job due to the ashes

Yeah this absolutely made me lose respect for Cummins and Warner. Was plain disgusting at the time. Props to Starc and co for not being sellouts.

Thing was that Australia won the T20 WC anyway despite players pulling out of lead-up series (and losing them badly) so Australia got to eat their cake and have it too.

And in a situation like this Cricket Australia will side with the players over the coach because they fear the fallout from alienating players moreso than a solitary coach.

There's been much talk about different mindsets between players of today and those of the 90s/00s and I think this modern mindset of playing IPL and picking and choosing which international series to play is illustrative of that.
