How good is it to see vice-captain Travis Head return to the fold after stupidly being dropped for the last Ashes test when he was the most consistent batsman Australia had during the Smith/ Warner absence. Any reasonably minded supporter with more than tuppence worth of brains will be happy to see it and will welcome his inclusion as plainly a player who is one of the best six batsmen in the country.

Tbf that was trolling not stupidity. Although it can be hard to tell with TJB sometimes

Starc v Patto a real coin toss, definitely a fan of both but I would have to say Starc may edge ahead by virtue of offering a different angle. I generally tend to like having a southpaw in the bowling attack, makes the batsmen have to think a bit more.

Yeah but what offsets the fact that they're playing an 8 at 6 as well?

I don't really mind having three number 8s between 7 and 9 as a tactic, but to pull it off you do need your 6 to actually be a 6 IMO, and you probably need to be more worried about your bowling than your batting too. Neither are true here.

These lineups tend to come up when people decide they'd rather pick a good bowler than a **** batsman, but if your fifth best bowler is good and your sixth best batsman is ****, you probably need the extra batting more than anything.

Five quicks should be banned in Test cricket. I'd rather select the worst batsman out of the Toyota Second XI. You might have a meme balance on your hands with Lyon in for Hazelwood of O'Keefe in for Pattinson or Starc, but as it is it's forbidden.
