Why do England struggle to produce undisputedly great players?

honestbharani

Whatever it takes!!!
KW averages nothing in South Africa or England, and apparently unless you score runs in every country you are terrible according to the above logic so I guess he isn't any good either.

Lol.. I obviously dont subscribe to this theory and honestly I will rather take a Sehwag than a player who might average 40 everywhere but wont really win you a game on his own. I just think having watched all 3 a lot over some time (Root less so than the other two though), I just think KW is a level ahead as of now.

Runs in Australia is probably not the main point. I just feel like only one of the "big 3" have consistently made tough runs when required. Of course you can cop a ball in any innings that would get you out. But in terms of class I need to see more from Joe.
I think he's got a great demeanor and obviously can make big scores. So for me, not there yet but has the talent
Of course, making 134 when the opposition has been bowled out for 60 is the definition of easy.

As if making runs in ****ing Australia is the mark of a good batsmen. Flattest pitches known to man.
People keep saying this but sides keep turning up here and consistently lose 20 wickets nearly every test match. Odd.

AB not close, Amla is as good but different era. If you are just going purely on current batsmen he is for sure up there with them as are a few others.
You're plainly talking about the Imposter AB here, and not the One True AB.

you keep bringing up this point but other teams also lose because the Aus attack can take 20 wickets on those (as well as other wickets). Their attack is half decent when the main bowlers are fit. Besides its not like visiting batsmen haven't cashed in on flat wickets. They have gotten runs, just not as many the Aussies.

This is a weird argument mate.

If making runs in Australia is so easy, why does Root average 25 over here?

Listen mate, the big 3 are all beyond reproach. Root, Williamson and Smith are legit great players a tier or two above the rest.
AB, Amla....
And that's still below tier 1.

Btw I'm finding this evolution to Big 3 from Big 4 quite amusing  Given the form that Kohli was in at the beginning of this year, he has only himself to blame for not converting that in a half a dozen test tons by now.

Such a wuss, is he going to make some runs in Australia? Even New Zealand? He's made 10 tons, 8 of which are in England/Wales. The other 2 were against a Steyn-less SA (still ok, but not the same really), and the other against Windies. He needs some decent runs in tough conditions against the best.
This is a really bad argument and it really annoys me when people them. This is what happens when people who don't actually watch the game then go on to cricinfo and glance over the scorecard. Here is some homework
Check what Amla did on his first series against
Sanga on his first series against England and Australia and South Africa
Dravid on his first series in Australia

This is test cricket. It's tough and many great players have become great after failure, learning and developing as doing better on their second and third series.

Root failed on his first series in Australia and KW failed on his first series in South Africa and England. This says absolutely nothing because they will have long careers ahead of them and it's just a matter of time before they start piling up those numbers.

Yeah people talking about Roots average in Aus is just ridiculous.....he's played 4 tests there in the early part of his career FFS.

You can rank the Fab 4 anyway you want but the fact is he is included in that group and ****ing deserves to be too.........anyone saying he is a rung below is just talking bollocks.

I recall one of those games from that series. Australia declared twice, India for within about 80 then declared(I it a triumph).

Maybe but you still failed to take 20 wickets in 2 out of 4 games mate :p And the other reason people call Australian pitches roads is mainly because of the disparity in the performance of your batsmen on Australian pitches and outside...kinda like Bradman and Chris Martin

Was mostly a troll response to Jmay's point tbh. 2013/14 you had peak Johnson and the wickets were better for bowling than what they have been over the last two years AFAIC.
