tbf a bowler to batsman comparison in terms of impact is unfair just because the bowler can only impact 10% of the game while a batsman can impact 50%.
Nah, bowlers can negatively impact by travelling for plenty. You can easily adjust in your methods.

Yea but by definition a bowler can only bowl 10 overs while an opening batsman can technically bat for 50. Out of a total 100 overs.

What even

A bowler can make an impact during only 10%, but the impact itself can be far greater because of the fact that you can get people out, which as a batsman you can't apart from hitting someone out of the attack.

A batsman could get out first ball and his match is over. A bowler could get smashed into the stand first ball and still get 59 chances to influence the game with the ball.

Plus, a bowler can bowl ten overs then go on to bat a significant number in his innings. They have a chance to significantly impact both innings.

I'm done with this.

Whatever it takes!!!
TBF to Viriya think his response was reg. Murali Vs Dilshan, so we can rule out Murali contributing with the bat :p But yeah, even without it the logic is not exactly tight on his argument.

Dilshan was a fantastic ODI opener, but we are going overboard if we're saying he had more impact than Murali.

You know, you're right. I was pointing out the 10% vs 50% in terms of potential match impact based on possible overs, but in practice, bowlers actually have similar (or maybe even better) impact levels on average to batsmen in ODIs - especially when you consider win shares as a metric to compare them:

If you go by win shares, Murali had way more impact on average than Dilshan, but it looks like bowlers are able to make a match impact easier (with a couple wickets) than a batsman (who needs to make a big score/fast score).

When Suranga Lakmal has a bigger win share over Kumar Sangakkara, that is an indication that you have to tweak your methodology

Hopefully Head is promoted up the order today. I picked him to be the highest Aussie bat yesterday when he was paying $15 as it seemed high with Smith out.

At some point it'll really sink in just how absurdly silly an ODI bowler Starc is, but it hasn't yet.
