Think it's time Arsenal fans stopped kidding yourselves that players who leave you and go to City are doing it for money.Don't understand Sagna. If he wanted to cash out why not just go to Monaco?
So he's replacing Zabaleta? Or does he not really care about playing much as long as he's part of a squad that wins something.Think it's time Arsenal fans stopped kidding yourselves that players who leave you and go to City are doing it for money.
Presumably the latter. Think he'll play a reasonable amount though. So he's replacing Zabaleta? Or does he not really care about playing much as long as he's part of a squad that wins something.
Word on the street is he sees his future at CB.Presumably the latter. Think he'll play a reasonable amount though.
Sagna was quite good, he had good seasons and bad seasons. Evra at his peak was definitely better, but it's easy to forget because he's been well short of that for some time. I seriously doubt you'll find a neutral who thinks he's better than Zabaleta and IMO Baines is comfortably ahead of Sagna too. Still makes him the second-best RB, though. It's between him and Cashley for the title of best Prem fullback of the last ten years imo.
Agree, Evra has been below his peak for a while and this seems to be starting to make people forget just how good he was at his peak. The thing that I don't understand is that Cashley has also been below his best for ages but people haven't forgotten how good he was yet. They both dropped off at the same time too, in fact Evra and Cashley probably had their most recent good seasons in the same season.Sagna was quite good, he had good seasons and bad seasons. I definitely remember him having a very poor season, I think it was two seasons ago, when he played very badly after coming back from an injury. I'm sure if you dig back into the old threads you'll find a lot of the Arsenal fans ripping into him at various stages. This season has probably been his best and if it's his last then I think that might rose-tint the memories of him.Sagna is one of these quietly effective and solid, but unspectacular players though. Whilst other players perhaps have higher ceilings in terms of ability (and though I agree that Evra does, I'm not convinced that the same is true of Baines) I don't think anyone has matched Sagna in terms of consistency and reliability.
Yeah, I think Evra has been poor this season. Last season was his best in ages but moreso because of his bizarre run of headed goals than an actual reversal of his long-term decline. Before that he'd been dodgy for some time and I really think we left it too long to replace him.Agree, Evra has been below his peak for a while and this seems to be starting to make people forget just how good he was at his peak. EDIT: I also think Evra has been one of our better players for the last couple of seasons actually as well, but that's not saying a lot especially in the case of the season just gone and he hasn't been as good as he was from 06-09.
Hopefully it puts an end to the notion of Moyes as an "honourable man who just wasn't up to the task", when in reality he took over the champions and proceeded to tell everyone the players were actually all **** in an embarrassing effort to hide his own gross incompetency.
