**Official** Australian Domestic Season 2013/14

i'd go Hughes, Klinger, Head, Ferguson, Cooper, McDonald, keeper x, Botha, Sayers, Putland, Zampa/Quick depending on team balance/McDonald's bowling capabilities.

TAS XI:
1. Silk, 2. Cowan*, 3. Doolan, 4. Cosgrove, 5. ???, 6. Paine +, 7. Faulkner, 8. Butterworth, 9. Rose, 10. Doherty, 11. Hilfenhaus

??? to be someone who isn't Jonathan Wells.

VIC XI:
1. Quiney, 2. Finch, 3. Maxwell, 4. Handscomb, 5. White, 6. Wade*+, 7. Christian, 8. Hastings, 9. McKay, 10. Holland/Herrick, 11. Ahmed

I don't care about the miracle 40. Boland can piss off for a while. Too many spin options with noted bowling all-rounder Aaron Finch at the top of the order, hence the potential for Herrick to replace Holland.
Ben Dunk's 3 50's this season is probably enough for him to get the spot left vacant by the question mark. There is Aiden Blizzard stuck in Futures too. With the Tassie team, I doubt I'd play Rose with Doherty all that much. I like Rainbird so would include him with Gulbis in the mix, but probably 12th man. Bird of course would come in when fit.

For Victoria, I like Handscomb at 3 and would probably give Michael Hill the opening spot just to make Finch work for it a little more. I agree with your Holland/Herrick decision, depending on conditions.

1. Quiney 2 Hill 3 Handscomb 4 White 5 Wade 6 Maxwell 7 Christian 8 Hastings 9 McKay 10 Holland/Herrick 11 Ahmed

With that team you would have to play Ludeman, even at 8 behind Botha. I haven't seen all that much of Lawford so he might be the quick instead of Zampa, but I like Mennie.

I think that Pews would select Hogan in a full strength WA and would take particular delight in leaving out Coulter-Nile.
Agree PEWS would be likely to leave NCN out, and would like to add that he'd give Turner a starring role.
???

I like NCN. Have said so many times over the last couple of seasons. Reminds me a bit of Mark Cameron, and we all know how I felt about him.

A team made up of your ridiculous/out-of-the-box/'in jest' ideas would make interesting reading. Hopes and Hauritz opening with a Watling-ed Hughes in the side. What would the rest be?
The Hopes thing isn't in jest at all. The perfect sort of guy to just fit in wherever at this stage of his career given the number of different roles he's had across his career and his declining claim to his own regular spot.

I suggested Nevill as an opener a fair few times before it happened but it probably doesn't count now that NSW actually seem to think it's a serious option sometimes.

I guess I thought incorrectly, who would make your WA team?
Hogan, Johnson, Coulter-Nile and.. probably Agar at this stage, but I wouldn't be afraid to bring in Beer or Turner for him at all. I'd think about dropping a batsman for Turner at some of the away venues this season too given how the pitches the played, how Agar has batted, the fact that Johnson and NCN can bat etc but at home it would definitely just be NSW-ing, especially with Mitch Marsh in the side.

I know Duffield has a few fans on this forum (social in particular I think?) and he's started the season okay but he doesn't really do a lot for me. Johnson will miss a lot of cricket for WA this season though (in fact probably all of it from this point on..) so he'd still have a place.

you wouldn't. and lawford would be nowhere near my team.

I'd pick Tim Davey. Better bat than Ludeman and pretty decent with the gloves. Had a really good year in grade last year with a couple of big tons so think he deserves a bit of a run. I don't really think he's up to it long term at fc level but deserves the chance.

Raph has really only kept in grade cricket for 18 months, took it up for his club side because no one else could do it and he was just their best fielder, absolute gun in the field, won the comp fielding trophy a couple of times I think. Then he started that season with 4 tons and got into the saca set up where he hasn't kept much.

I have not.

I don't think he's kept in any senior cricket. I think the last time he did it was in the U 17 State Champs? Could be wrong, but a different bloke does it in their club side when Davey is unavailable, not Head.

Yeah, I don't think having Head keep now would be a great idea either given he seems to be finding his place as a batsman, but if he was a genuinely natural keeper and saw himself as such it'd be worth considering. Bowls too tidily to be a real keeper though IMO; always a good measure. Wade is a great example.

WA really are a hard team to pick and after another poor start to the year, I expect some changes. I'm not sure though if JL will just go for a youth policy or try and pick the best XI always to attempt to gain some respectability.

From the team that played out the draw today, Voges comes in for Bosisto, Hogan for either Rimmington or Duffield and I would bring back Beer for Agar. Bancroft would need more runs shortly or otherwise someone like Marcus Harris would come back in. I would quite like to see Andrew Tye be given a chance too.

Based on his pretty ****ty fielding I would say he isn't.

I wouldn't mind seeing Davis get another go this season on the better tracks. Is 29 now though, probably unlikely to be picked in a bit of a lost cause side unless he replaced John Rogers.

Plus I always get twisted satisfaction out of him not playing after he hurt me so with that triple against New South.

Can't say I enjoyed the selection of Doherty over Clive Rose against Victoria, I think CA should schedule another meaningless ODI series against some team so Doherty is dragged away from FC cricket again
