Against the NSW team I named earlier, I would pick for QLD: 1. G Moller 2. U Khawaja 3. J Burns 4. C Lynn 5. P Forrest 6. N Reardon 7. C Hartley 8. J Hopes 9. B Cutting 10 C Boyce 11 A McDermott

EDIT - If Feldman is fit it is a bit harsh to leave him out. Maybe we end up just leaving Reardon out or McDermott and bringing in Robocop Feldman. All I know is that I wouldn't be playing Neser.
i think this team makes a bit more sense if you remove boyce for hauritz, what with boyce going at over 4 an over for the last two games and all (how long does his 7fer in a dead match on a spin friendly pitch keep him in the team anyway)

Turns it the right way, isn't Hauritz etc. Pretty much guarantees him a game until he gets selected by Australia for the Adelaide Test, since he knows the local conditions so well.

gotta get gametime into young leggies, good wicket-taking option too, Hauritz is just the kinda guy who's gonna give you 0/50 off 20 each week

qld haven't been afraid to not pick him though.

if you're going in with only 4 bowlers i just dont think boyce is a smart inclusion

The bloke I'd think about making open for Queensland is Hopes. He used to do it in OD cricket all the time - often as an anchor too and not as a pinch hitter - and I believe he even hit a ton there in a First Class game either for Australia A on tour, or possibly at home in a tour game for Queensland against a touring side (wasn't a Shield game anyway), plus he doesn't bowl as much anymore and he's in the side as much for experience as he is cricket at the moment so he can cop one for the side (ala North). That'd allow Queensland to then pick their four specialist bowlers and have a bit of cover for Boyce if they decide he's one of them. Hartley's more technically suited to the job but I don't really think taking on the dual role of wicket keeping and opening full time is the best way to go about things.

So that'd leave

1. Hopes
2.
3. Khawaja
4. Burns
5. Lynn
6. Forrest
7. Hartley
8. Cutting
9. Boyce
10. McDermott
11. Feldman

If they decided the next best batsman was a middle order player (Reardon I guess) then I'd have no issue with Khawaja, Burns and Lynn all moving up one, but I tend to think Khawaja will probably decide to be self-centred and refuse to open regularly in the Shield. Burns should not open just to fit Reardon in though; not worth it.

I also suggested Hauritz as a possibly opening option last season. This was pretty much in jest, but if he was making the runs in grade that he was in Sydney and he was keen on the role then I would perhaps start to think about seriously. He'd have to be willing to live or die on his runs as a batsman though. But other than that then it's Moller.

A team made up of your ridiculous/out-of-the-box/'in jest' ideas would make interesting reading. Hopes and Hauritz opening with a Watling-ed Hughes in the side. What would the rest be?

One day spikey will ask me to pick a team :(

EDIT: Screw it, I'm bored. Picking XIs for everyone.

WA XI:
1. North, 2. Turner, 3. S Marsh, 4. Voges*, 5. Allenby, 6. M Marsh, 7. Whiteman+, 8. Agar, 9. Johnson, 10. NCN, 11. Behrendorff

Let's face it, the batsmen don't make any runs anyway, so may as well NSW the side and play 9 bowlers.

TAS XI:
1. Silk, 2. Cowan*, 3. Doolan, 4. Cosgrove, 5. ???, 6. Paine +, 7. Faulkner, 8. Butterworth, 9. Rose, 10. Doherty, 11. Hilfenhaus

??? to be someone who isn't Jonathan Wells.

SA XI:
1. Hughes, 2. Klinger, 3. Raphael +, 4. Ferguson, 5. Cooper, 6. Head, 7. Botha*, 8. Mennie, 9. Richardson, 10. Sayers, 11. Zampa/George

Richardson needs to get an FC game at some point. Raphael 'keeping in place of NUFAN's boi for no real reason other than it helps team balance. Would have swapped Hughes & Raphael's roles if not for the double ton this week. If you want to keep Ludeman in, drop Raphael and Head bats 3.

VIC XI:
1. Quiney, 2. Finch, 3. Maxwell, 4. Handscomb, 5. White, 6. Wade*+, 7. Christian, 8. Hastings, 9. McKay, 10. Holland/Herrick, 11. Ahmed

I don't care about the miracle 40. Boland can piss off for a while. Too many spin options with noted bowling all-rounder Aaron Finch at the top of the order, hence the potential for Herrick to replace Holland.

NSW XI:
1. Henry, 2. D Hughes, 3. Maddinson 4. Rohrer, 5. Patterson, 6. Henriques*, 7. Nevill+, 8. Copeland, 9. O'Keefe, 10. Sandhu, 11. Bollinger

Obviously Rohrer to be omitted for dermo abbott if this were a real selection. Can't be going in with 5 bowlers when you're NSW

QLD XI already named.

i've only asked for two teams so far

bold move to assume johnson wont stick with the national team

NUFAN

Y no Afghanistan flag
I think that Pews would select Hogan in a full strength WA and would take particular delight in leaving out Coulter-Nile. If Johnson wasn't an option, Hogan would just come in for him.

I know Mitch Marsh just made a 60 odd not out, but the two changes I would make to the batting order would be switching Rogers and S Marsh around M Marsh and Whiteman.

Only problem is WA's strongest XI contains Allenby and Hogan, who can't play simultaneously.

Agree PEWS would be likely to leave NCN out, and would like to add that he'd give Turner a starring role.

does anyone know if there's a rule that prevents WA from playing two overseas players in a season, even if they don't play in the same game? Cause i can't understand why allenby didn't play last game unless he didn't want to go to Adelaide

Any particular reason why re Richardson? 6 FC games with average results doesn't seem like enough to write him off entirely, and the replacements are hardly of star quality anyway. Lawford and Munting hardly scream 'must pick', and the only other alternative I can think of is Gary Putland (who has far better FC stats than I thought, apparently).

EDIT:
Riggins too quick.
